I RACED A MAXIMA, I THINK IT WAS A 2000, AND HE BEAT ME. NOT BY MUCH , TWO OR THREE CAR LENGTHS, WE DIDNT GO ALL OUT THERE WAS TOO MUCH TRAFFIC. HE ASKED ME WHAT I HAD, I TOLD HIM JUST A INTAKE, THEN I ASKED HIM THE SAME QUESTION AND HE SAID BLAHBLAHBLE, I COULD'NT HEAR HIM. HE TOOK OFF. I FELT SO ASHAMED, VIOLATED . I JUST WENT HOME. OH WELL .

finally, a believer...maximas are faster than our av6s...but with a little bolt ons u should be able to beat a stock maxima..however, if this maxima also has the same bolt ons u have...u gonna lose dude.......

by the way, dont race a maxima thats stick unless u wanna see his ugly ass..

yea, those maximas are more lude territory....they make GOBS of hp on cheap ass mods..pisses me off...nissan will own soon..i dun like it

huh? what are you talking about? any recent 5 speed max or an auto max after '99 will kick our asses.

sorry man, but don't feel too bad.

The Maxima 00+ weighs slightly less (it had the circlely tail lights right?)
It has more horsepower and torque.
It has a much wider powerband.
The auto has better gearing.
But it's uglier than Accord's

And yeah, don't mess with the 5spd's

With your mods you probably equalled his power at the wheels (00-01 Maxima auto's only dyno around 160-165 fwhp stock - their auto tranny is worse than ours! 25-28% loss for the Max vs. 22.5% and 155 fwhp for us), but you still had more weight, crappier gearing, and a pathetically narrow powerband compared to the Maxima.

WHAT IF

MY CAR IS PRETTY HEAVY, I GOT MY SPEAKER BOX WITH MY AMPS ON IT IN THE BACK, NOT TO MENTION I HAD MY SONS STOLLER, I WEIGH LIKE 186. THE MAXIMA'S TAILLIGHTS WERE CIRCULAR. BUT WHAT IF I WENT UP AGAINST A '99 OR 98? WOULD I BE BEAT?

u would beat a 99 and below maxima auto maybe
it would be real close, but if u get a good launch and right torque break u will take it by 1-2 cars

i will SMOKE all u fools....but i will NOT say that i can burn a maxima, u guyz are smoking something...There arent many cars that can outcompete a maxima in its class and price range, including av6s.... If u believe u can, i don't care..u are just kidding yourself. Go with steve to the maxima board..and i wanna see u say that.

Driving an automatic has nothing to do with the HP of a car.. In drag races most people prefer Autos... I dunno why people just assume the manuals are going to be faster. Of course the fact that the AV6 tranny is god awful hurts but that doesn't mean that all manuals are faster/more powerful than autos.

but simply because of drivetrain loss in theory a manual should be faster. but you do still have to figure in driver error and stuff like that. since alot of people cant drive tho, a lot of time the auto will end up winning.

Tranny choice has nothing to do with crank horsepower, but it has a lot to do with power at the wheels, which is what really counts.

00-01 Maxima Autos
stock dyno: 160-165 fwhp
stock ET: 15.7-15.8.

00-01 Maxima 5spd
stock dyno: 180-190 fwhp
stock ET: 15.0-15.2s avg.

That's a difference of over 20 HP at the wheels stock and over 0.5s difference in 1/4 mile ET's

And actually, I think the AV6's auto tranny is quite good. The Maxima's auto loses 25-28% of the crank horsepower (222 HP at the crank) whereas ours only loses 22.5%.

Additionally, the manuals are about 80 lb lighter than the automatics, and they also have an additional gear ratio and much closer ratios for better performance.

It's true that on some cars the auto version is actually faster than the manual though. Gear ratio's can have a big play. A manual version of a car might need an extra shift to cross the line whereas an auto doesn't, and this can make the auto actually faster in a measured contest. I believe this to be true of some Supra TT's (where's almostki to confirm?)

And once you get to a certain power level, a human driver is simply unable to control a manual well enough and then the consistency of an automatic can make the car faster. I think this point is somewhere around the 8's or 9's though and not 15/16s Accord V6's

People that bracket race also might prefer autos as well because of the consistency. Consistent launches and consistent ET's allow them to cut almost-perfect lights and cross the line in consistent times. From what I've learned about bracket racing, consistency and good launching is more important than all-out speed. So even though a manual still may be "faster" the extra consistency added of an auto during bracket racing might make it a preferred tranny and easier to win with.
