Here are some tips on how to paint the PLASTIC peices in your ride. Painted vinyl will always flake, no matter what, it is flexible, have it dyed or buy aftermarket.
Ok here is what you need to do this. This stuff can be picked up at Checker or Autozone or even maybe Walmart.
What you need:
RED Scotchbrite pad (1)
GREY Scotchbrite pad (1)
1 can of Adhesion Promoter (VERY IMPORTANT)
2 Cans of paint. (I highly reccomend using a high quality urethane automotive paint instead of rattle can, but that may be a toughie.)
1 can of Clear Coat spray
Some Laquer thinner or Wax and Grease remover
Step 1. Get all the stuff out you want to paint. Don't bother painting it inside the car becuase you'll just get overspray everywhere.
Step 2. Take the Laquer thinner or Wax and grease remover and clean the SHIT out of every piece. (This removes all the armorall and oils and greasy stuff)
Step 3. With the pieces all dry, take the RED Scotchbrite pad and scuff up all of the pieces. Scuff them good, all over the whole piece, make sure to get all the edges, knooks, and crannies.
Step 4. Apply one LIGHT Coat of adhesion promoter. Shake the can well before you spray it. Don't spray it too heavy, keep the can moving back and forth, and stay 8-10 inches away while spraying. Let the 1st coat sit for about 1-2 minutes and spray another coat. Spray it a little heavier than the first, but be careful not to run it.
Step 5. Let the adhesion promoter sit for about 20-30 minutes and the LIGHTLY Scuff it with the GREY Scotchbrite pad.
Step 6. Apply one LIGHT coat of paint to each piece. Shake the can well before you spray it. Don't spray it too heavy, keep the can moving back and forth, and stay 8-10 inches away while spraying. Let it sit for about 1-2 minutes and spray another coat. Let that sit for about 1-2 minutes and spray a 3rd coat. Make sure you hit each piece at every angle and didn't miss any spots.
Step 7. Go Inside and watch tv. Let the paint sit for about an hour.
Step 8. Again, take the RED Scotchbrite pad and scuff up all of the pieces. Scuff them good, all over the whole piece, make sure to get all the edges, knooks, and crannies.
Step 9. Repeat steps 6 and 7.
Step 10. Take the GREY, (Make sure its GREY) Scotchbrite pad and scuff up all of the pieces. Scuff them good, all over the whole piece, make sure to get all the edges, knooks, and crannies.
Step 11. After all of the pieces have been scuffed with the grey scotchbrite, spray a coat of CLEAR on them. Shake the can well before you spray it. Don't spray it too heavy, keep the can moving back and forth, and stay 8-10 inches away while spraying. Let it sit for about 1-2 minutes and spray another coat. Let that sit for about 1-2 minutes and spray a 3rd coat. Make sure you hit each piece at every angle and didn't miss any spots
Thats it, you're done, let them dry and put them back in, just remember not to clean the peices with Armorall. If done right they should be nice and glossy and very scratch resisant.

Don't spray it too heavy, keep the can moving back and forth, and stay 8-10 inches away while spraying. Let it sit for about 1-2 minutes and spray another coat. Let that sit for about 1-2 minutes and spray a 3rd coat. Make sure you hit each piece at every angle and didn't miss any spots
Thats it, you're done, let them dry and put them back in, just remember not to clean the peices with Armorall. If done right they should be nice and glossy and very scratch resisant.
