Well it doesn't exactly detect police... kinda detects radar... but anyways. If you want the best, go with a V1 (Valentine 1).. but it's kinda pricey. Next step down would be the escort SR7 which has the bumper sensors, also another great performer but still pricey. I currenty use the Escort X50 8500 detector and it works great. Runs about 300 retail, but if you want a regular simple $100 radar, may as well just grab a cobra. Just don't buy a whistler from walmart, they suck and sound annoying haha.

Guess it's not a brand name, but for the most part all detectors work. Just some better than others. And for $3 you can't lose haha. As for my detector, you can grab one for around 200 on ebay. The X50 blue costs more than the X50 red, they are the same thing except the display colors.

Yeah it's plenty of bang for the buck, and for the $180 I spent on it, I have avoided many tickets - not just speeding. Usually have enough reaction time to turn down the system at night if I am passing through a town - noise violation fines are not fun. Noise violation in my town runs about $200 a pop for loud music. But I do want to upgrade to the SR7, can install that a little more inconspicuously.

Detectors are legal in almost every state, i think they are legal in 49? I know they are illegal in DC. But most detectors.. at least the escorts and bel's have the shielding / immunity and cannot be detected. However they are electronics and everything is subject to error. If you get pulled over, I wouldn't leave the thing hanging from your window, the cops will look at that and go "So you knew i was there, but still didn't slow down? wtf?" and give you a ticket.

Detectors are good to have but they don't provide you protection against getting a speeding ticket. If you are speeding and there is a cop hiding somewhere and he clocks your speed, the Radar detector will notify you but at the same time the cop has your speed too. So my point is you will still get busted.

The best use I have found on these detectors is at night when cops are cruising on the roads and you can't tell whether the cars behind you is one of Cop cars or not. So I would say if you didn't have a detector you wouldn't know if there is a cop behind you or someone else and you would keep speeding, where-as with detector atleast you will slow down and not do something stupid.

The best soluting for this is to get a Laser Jammer but again it will only block Laser not Radar. So you would still be caught under radar. It costs around $349 and it works 100%.

Hey dont trip....I got a ticket that same way. I was on a side street and doing about 50, came up a hill saw my shit go off for a quick second then ignored it. Came to the top of the hill and bam, shit was going off at full blast, slowed down and came up to the end of the block and bam the cop was sitting half way down the street. I took the right at the end of the block and saw the cop chasing me and knew what was coming. He pulled me over, saw my radar detector and said that same thing you said up there..."you saw me and still didnt slow down?" He got me doing 42 in a 30.

wtf didn't you slow down for!?!?!?
I did slow down but not until i got over the hill, thats why he got me doing 42 instead of 50. I was testing out my wheels to see if they shook because i just had them balanced at the shop around the corner. I should have waited til i got to the highway, but the highway was too far away, haha....thats what you get for being lazy. After a while, you stop listening to your radar detector....i've had mine for a year, i stopped paying attention to it a month after i got it.

Yeah I have my radar up top near the roof, so from the outside you can't see it through the factory AS-1 tint. And you really have to lean down to see it from the inside, and the good old X50 has the mute button right on the power adaptor. Got tired of scrambling to pull it down when I got pulled over. That's kinda why I want the SR7, the controls can be put someplace low and out of sight, and you can't really see the sensors on the exterior of the vehicle.
