Weel, i have a 98 dx engine that i've been beating up for about a year and a half, and well i need more power. Correct me if i'm wrong but the best way to get more power is to do an engine swap. I'd like to swap for a B18b or B18c. Can you guys tell me in detail what parts i really need to make this happen and about how much money i'll have to put on the table?

Ok then you have several options:
for about 1,000 you can get a SOHC vtec engine (ex) 127 hp
for about 3,000 you can get the B18 or B16 swap.
for about $500 you can get NOS (50 hp shot don't get more)
see what fits in your pocket, but these are pretty much your options.

what do you run in the quarter mile?

I raced a Supercharged LX once and beat it with my EX with i/h/e.

So, I'm not too big on the idea of spending thousands on a very weak engine - to still be slow...

i dont have current times but i will smoke a sc civic too. an i/h/e will not beat my car. also a shop in salt lake here where i live built a d16 up and has it runnin high 10's low 11's
so i strongly believe that a d16 can be built up maybe not as much as a b18 but enough to make it beat almost any car on the road.......just my opinion. and i have a fast d16 so i think it's valid
in the end it will cost less to build the d16 because you dont fork out the money on a swap. i did originally consider a swap until i spoke with the shop and i saw what they could do to a d16.

To make a dx motor run 10's or 11's - you are gonna have to spend a ridiculous amount of money. I too have the puny sohc engine... but it's just common sense - If you swap in a DOHC - then you will have waaaayyy more potential for waaayyyyy less money than building a sohc non-vtec (or any sohc). I'm not saying sohc's cant be fast - i'm just saying it makes more sense to swap. I havent swapped b/c my engine is brand new (15k) but It is very clear what makes sense - if you do have the option of swapping or working with the stock engine.

"mhardy" I didnt ask what you 'have heard people can run' - I asked what YOU RUN. Since you keep running your mouth.

You can't put a DOHC head on your DX block. You could buy a SOHC head from a EX (D16y8) - and put it on your dx block... then you would have the vtec from the head and higher compression also. I don't know much about this - but I'm sure if you start a thread about mating the DX block with the EX head - you could get some good feedback.

Good luck.
