I did the same thing too the first time I overoiled my filter. I didn't realize it takes time for the oil to seep into the filter and that if you just wait 5 minutes after oiling, most of the white spot will go away as the oils spreads throught he filter.
I just kept spraying more and more oil on until the entire filter was red. Then I realize it was too much oil when the oil started dripping off the filter. I tried using paper towels to soak up the excess oil but there was so much I just gave up and put the filter back in my car. For next 2 days I had oil dripping in my engine bay and then it finally cleared up after that.
