What kind of fans do the new gateway, dell, compaq/hp use to make them so quiet? If anyone knows tell me, because I need a new fan anyhow and its loud as hell. My processor is a 1.0Ghz AMD Duron, so Im sure the fans from the new systems will be adequate.:)

Ok, Let me rephrase that, what are the components they use to make them so quiet?? I am tired of listening to my PC drone on.

unfortunately, just like building a motor for your car, you can't look at this as a piece by piece scenario. there are a few different things they do to get their confusers quiet.
the first thing i would recommend is getting a case with good airflow. then get a good set of fans from www.newegg.com that are under 27dba when they are at full tilt. power supplies have fans in them so get a psu that has good power ratings... again www.newegg.com look for a fortron psu with a 120mm fan. harddrives make a shitload of noise... seagate barracudda V's are the quietest.
that's just a small rundown of things you can do. there's alot more but i can't type it right now 'cause i'm in class. /sigh

the PSU and heatsink fan are the two biggest noise makers....the fortron 120mm fan PSU is unterly stealth. I got one for a friend and you con't hear it until you're inches away with your ear. As for a heatsink solution. I have a Thermalright SLK-800 but a SLK-900 would work just as well. these are some massive heatsinks and you can easily use a low cfm/low noise fan with them while still maintaining good temps.

I was looking around some websites and found the panasonic panaflo fans are cheap and ultra quiet at less than 21dB. I found another fan that runs at 18dB but I forgot what it was. I think Im gonna replace my cpu fan and psu fan with those and get a cooler for my video card. :)

before you just go replacing fans with lower db ones, almost all low dB fans also have low cfm rates. If you don't move enough air, your stuff will overheat and fry. So it's a fine line to walk, especially with the cpu fan.

I just replaced my G3 Ti200's fan. It was making an ugly grinding sound any time it powered up when I loaded up a game...

Now it's nice and quiet AND as a bonus it has a blue LED in it. ;)

I got some of this stuff...

haven't installed it yet. Its got a peel and stick side that sticks to the inside of the case... My CPU, PSU, 2 case fans and vid card are insanely loud (this is my older PC... 1.4ghz AMD).

Dont worry, I checked the flow rates of the panaflo fans I am getting and they are up to par with what I need. So now my PC will be quiet enough that I can finally get some

yeah but for the price of one G5 he could have two pc's @ the same noise or less so there's really no point.

Yeah, but it's like saying you'd rather have two Cavaliers than an M3

no no... see you mis-read my statement. what you're saying is alot like saying i could have two crappy things for the price of one good thing. what i'm saying is i could have two good things for the price of one over-rated and over-priced thing.
there's a difference.
as proof i'll show you this link, where in the UK the government has banned the G5 commercial where Apple says they have the fastest workstation around. http://www.itc.org.uk/itc_publicati...laints/show_complaint.asp?ad_complaint_id=930

and i'll raise you one funny comic. http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=11446

as i said... over priced and over rated...

FK DELL AND GATEWAY they both suk.

Get some temp. sensing fans, or spend $$ and go water cooled. Good bearings and big fans are quieter. LowMileLude pointed you in the right dir. frozencpu.com is a good site for it.
