Got on the B20A5 a little rough today, and afterward a highly noticeable tick seems to be coming from the number 1 cylinder. I don't know what it could be. I hope I didn't bend a valve somehow. Though if I did, I wouldn't know why.

I really didn't run it hard. I really don't want to dump money into this POS any more if I don't have to. If you have any input, let me know please!

I don't know what step I should take next. Help me!!!!:(

I just rebuilt the head 3,000 miles ago, and I adjusted them all then, so I completely ruled out having to adjust them already. But it does make sense. It kinda has been a progressive tick too. Should I be driving it much? The only time I have time to adjust them is Wednesday.

And thank you! You have no idea how much closure this bring me! Even if it's not the exact problem. (But hopefully it is, because it's an easy fix)

I realized that when you tighten that screw it messes it up. It makes going back and quadrouple checking your work nearly impossible because it's always off some. Especially when you're trying to keep your motor at the exact spot you adjusted them the first, second, and third times.

I'm just really hoping that's what it is. I mean, it only makes sense. It was gradual, I noticed it and put thicker oil in it thinking it'd quiet it up some. It didn't and I kept thinking damn, I wonder if it's my rocker clearances? And I kept putting it off, and finally yesterday it must've been pushed too hard, and it just finally started an actual clicking.

The sound I've been noticing before yesterday was more of like a feel anyway. It had a rough sound when accelerating, it'd smooth out after a few grand, and it'd smooth out when slowly letting the engine decel. But if I kept the gas at a constant, and the engine didn't have much load, it'd feel rough. Still sounds like clearances?

Mind you, the current ticking sound is heard at idle (800) all the way up to about 2,500.

It's my only transportation though, and I can't just toss it aside. I'm also trying to sell it.

Thanks for your help! :)

Yeah, that's the technique I use. But the louder knock went away, now it just sounds grumbly when the throttle is just keeping the car at a constant speed at any RPM. If I decel or accel it sounds just fine. The grumbly sound scares me though. Any ideas?
