there is a whole unit that has about 10 10mm bolts that holds the seal. You take that off and then take the seal out of it.

...and you cant start the motor without the flywheel on. The flywheel is used to start the motor (its what the starter engages to), and unless the crank is worn pretty bad where the seal rides, you should be fine.

Haha, oops forgot about that. I could probably start the car with my impact wrench if I really wanted to avoid putting the flywheel back on.

Do you have to take the retainer out to change the seal? Or is it significantly easier to change the seal with the retainer out?
you might be able to do it without taking the whole thing off, but it lets you drive out the seal from the back. Plus its not hard to take the whole thing off anyway.


also: dont try to start your car without a flywheel lol
