shifting without using clutch!!??

I juss heard from my friends dad that u can shift gears withought using the clutch, he said u juss gotta shift at the right rpm. He says this works for diesel trucks at like 2100k or something, but not sure for reg gas cars. I smell bs, or is it technically true!?

Yeah, you don't need the clutch to shift in a diesel. It is also possable to shift in your car without the clutch at the perfect time, but i promise you'll mess things up trying to learn.

My buddy had a crx, and he never used the clutch.

IMO I would not try this...It's not going to give you better times or anything like that.

REV MATCHING

hey guys

its called "rev matching", alot of the racers do this japan. i've seen it. even my friends do this shit. here in the states... sometimes they grind a couple gears but other than that its all dandy.
what it is, is revving at a specific rpm and puttin it in gear...i've tried it once and i grinded and never did it agian. but my friends can do it pretty well. but the things is your tranny will not last too long if you do it.....unless you got a dog box.

Is it really that much quicker? I don't think so. At the cost of killing your transmission?

hehehe

i had to do it on my old mustang. but its pretty slow, you have to shift at around 4300, so its going like normal speed. may differ on a civic tho.

You sure that it is rev matching? Sounds more like power shifting to me.

dry shifting

It's safe and easy to dry shift, as long as you know how. I do it daily in my 97 civic. But it's much slower so unless you're left foot braking there's no real advantage, just for fun. Learn upshifts first, maybe between 2nd and 3rd or 3rd and 4th, these are the easiest. To do it, accelerate until the sweet spot (can't tell you rpms, no tach) which will be just as you hear the engine start to open up, bad description but once you learn how you'll recognize the sound (for my car this is around 40km/h(25m) for 2nd to 3rd, 65km/h(40m) 3rd to 4th), then just as you lift off the gas, push it into next gear. It's quite smooth when it works, just try until you figure it out, it's easy. if you get these gears to shift smoothly, find the best rpm's or listen to the engine sound and apply to all gears. Downshifting is much more difficult. Learn 4th to 3rd shift first as it is the easiest. To downshift: accelerate, lift off the gas as you pull it out of gear, "blip" the throttle (not too much- see rev matching), push it into lower gear. If you're quick and smooth and have the correct rpm's it's quite easy for all the gears. I don't usually do 1st to 2nd, and never do 2nd to 1st. Have fun!

My boyfriends step-dad showed him how to do that, and he in turn showed me - but I don't think I'd mess with it for fear of screwing up the transmission.

Yeah u can shift without clutching in i know two of my buddies who can do it one drives a truck he can change gears whenever he wants and another friend who can do it only around 3000 rpm
