Hey mattliston, is there any way to get 200 hp from the current B16 without spending an arm or leg? I know that getting 200 NA hp is possible but it's expensive and my sis would like to keep the original engine instead of replacing it. I suggested turbocharging to her but she's not really into it since you might have to end up using premium fuel and like everyone here we're not the richest people around.
edit: Do you know how much your audio system was? She's kind of interested in your setup.
the sony 5.25s came with the car. the alpines were 80 used, and the pioneer was roughly 200 new. maybe 230.
I might be able to copy the setup for 150 bucks nowadays, as each component is now at least 2 years old.
200hp huh? find a factory turbo car. make sure the motor is a 1.4-2.4 liter size, and then look up ebay or someplace and buy a turbo form one. look for rebuilt turbos, or ones that still work fine and have ZERO shaft play
most common turbos used are off mitsubishi eclipses, eagle talons, plymouth lasers, and mitsu evos
I think the ebst for your setup would be a VW GTI turbo. find a golf or jetta with a turbocharger 1.8 liter gas motor adn take the turbo. its small enough to have almost ZERO lag, and pulls harder then a jackson supercharger setup
might be able to kiss 250whp. it usually maxes out around 220-230whp on a d16z6, and your b16 has bigger bore and higher compression to help it get more out of it
expect up to 400 bucks for teh GTI turbo. 400 bucks, it will most likely be out of a very low mileage setup, or freshly rebuilt.
rest of the turbo kit will cost upwards of a grand, that includes a tune
EDIT she needs to realize honda motors dont make an extra 40hp NA for chepa. a turbo will be cheper, get better gasmileage, sound better, and possibly last longer. the idea being that she wont always be in boost, and high compression needs higehr octane fuel as wella s turbo
just let her know. no matter what, her car will need premium fuel. whether she goes for NA (no torque, no fun) or turbpo (both power and torque, FUN)
