i dont know if thats such a good idea. Little things like what to do for a cold is alright, but real medical/health topics should be discussed with healthcare professionals

you forget people will see a doctor and mention it in off-topic either way. this is a web forum designed to aid/help people where ever. if you can give free porn, why not give someone some background information on things they may not realize is potentially hazardous. I've been reading a lot of posts about people asking (myself included) for information on certain procedures and such. Like i said before, people are going to ask/talk about it no matter what, might as well make it organized, it's going to take up the same amount of space as it would anywhere else in OT.

For the person mentioning lawsuits, SHO could have been taken to court many times over. It gives people means and know how to revamp cars, disassemble emissions, disabling safety features on vehicles, street racing, questionable porn, porn to minors, drug chats, copyright infringment all over the forums, etc. What would the difference be in giving someone information that is of good value?

:stupid

remember when boosted had that lump on his nuts (sorry to keep using that example but it was the most major one in recent memory). He didn't have a job and therefore no insurance so he wasn't going to go to the dr but when he posted about it we said hey go to the dr he did and they removed a cyst (I think correct me if I'm wrong there) so we actually ended up helping him.

it's simple enough, create the forum, those who don't need it or don't want it, stay out. for those who want it, it'd be a good place to post your steroid comments. "how to get ripped", "im going to be puny forever", it'd be like a mens health magazine in SHO. :)

it's good idea

ya..i barely see medical threads, of course your view will change when you have something you need help with, but seriously you can find info easier and quicker and more reliable on webmd or something,

also people might take sho'ers advice, if its wrong then what?....no one wins..

also this is a car forum mainly

i just dont see it being used that much.

just ask in o/t, there aren't 100's of medical threads..there are maybe 20 in a year...
thats my take:)

I'm seeing more and more of them these days and webmd may help find info but what I like about SHO is that you not only get helpful info but also peoples personal experience

if it's something really major people should not be making decisions based on what they read on a forum they should consult with a dr and in the past we have been pretty good about telling people that we don't know and they should see a dr

we have a porn subforum, a food subforum, an anime sub forum and most recently a Gran Turismo subforum (kinda has to do with cars but it's still just a video game)

I'm pretty sure people would use it if it was there and it would cut down a little on the clutter plus something that could turn out to be major wouldn't get buried under threads like
OMG Just got cut off by a bitch in an SUV

just my humble opinion

a medical/health thread consists not just of "flu" "cold" "new virus threads" I have seen at least 20 this past couple months alone! I suggested it be where you contain information about losing weight, healthy eating, exercising, etc, etc, not just people talking about being sick.

WebMD and such requires you to pay for their information in a lot of things, as do others.

The whole "car forum" bit doesn't work too well IF you have OT forums that provide almost 50% of the postings on the site alone. (that's a wild stab at %'s)

but, personally speaking... I think it would be more relative and close to home for MANY more people on SHO than an RC forum which only has 21 threads itself.

look at the thread LASIK, perfect example of a health related topic. here are some others. :)

only 10% of visitors on this site are in o/t :)

check it out. there arel ike 800-1000+ people on the site, but only 100 in o/t
:)

and you are counting obviously lol

some of those arent exactly medical or health.

hair removal.

and thats still not enough to me for a new forum

you have to think of traffic, also whats the point if people arent getting things answered or help? and the car bit does matter;)

I feel that if you created a medical forum that it would be a great idea because the people who were hesistant to post about a medical problem before in the OT forum will think, "hey, here's a forum that could probably help me out" coz it's more "official"...i'm having trouble expressing what i mean but i hope u guys kinda get wut im sayin bleh :hehs

no way. With some of the advice and knowledge I hear in this forum, some people would be stupid enough to believe everything they read, and end up with a leg for a dick, an eye for an ass, and directions for making cum shot juice for reducing heart failure....... :nuts

That, and we have way to many forums, and no doctors.

hey, you guys are the mods... apparently the general public has no say in what they deem a good 'IDEA', although some of the points on behalf of not creating a health related forum don't really have validation. yes, there are people who would get in the forum and say stupid stuff, but that occurs as it is now, and most of the threads and posts are all threads and posts of this word here... "REPOST" haha

where are you getting 10%? I have seen more than 100 people in OT at one time. Just the other day it was like 130+ people in it when I logged in, I am sure there are tons more than one might think that lurk through. You know people will click on links to find out. it's like me, i don't do anime, so I don't regularly click on it, nor RC, but I have been in there and I have posted there before. Everyone has health issues, etc.

As for the posts I mentioned above, each one of those would be considered health. Health is NOT limited to medical. Health is a as defined by webster "soundness of body and mind", "any physical condition or subject dealing with the body". so hair removal is considered a health topic.

as far as getting help or answered, how does that even make sense? everyone of those threads i mentioned previous has been answered or help given. obviously if someone has a serious problem they wouldn't be online looking for answers or advice on any site webmd or SHO in the first place. if someone takes the advice given, and it's wrong then they still have a problem, but advice can be wrong everywhere even at the doctors office. but what if the advice suggested works?

as far as counting, that was to prove a point (posting those threads links) because those were the number of threads i noticed browsing the OT forum a few pages. That was my rebuttal to there being maybe 20 a year. :)

BTW, the votes are split, people will want what they want. :ninja
Truth, justice, and the american way... :clap
Those who voted no must be conservatives... damn republicans! haha :evil

Lol, ok man

first, mods cant create shit dealing with the board, only admins and owner. its up to them

and its not like only the mods are saying no....and ricky/eyecue is far from republican, so am i, hell im palestinian, u think i love bush?

lol, 10% is an estimate, because all the times i've checked o/t and checked the entire board's attendance o/t has the least people.

im serious, check it out sometime....you'll see less than 40% of people are vewiing o/t and alot of them dont even post in o/t

my main problem is the amount of forums, i think it needs to be cut down, for better browsing, and better site efficeincy. If it helps people, cool good for that, but i just don't see it being a good idea at the moment, maybe later. Who knows maybe mike_sho will be like, 5genlude is totally wrong, so are the 11people that voted no, time to create another forum, and bam god will create another area for us sho'ers...
im just merely stating my opinion on why it wouldn't be the best thing now.

Should we have a HEALTH section??

Yes it's good ole me again saying we should have a medical/health related forum area.

Since the last time I posted this the main argument of "no one posts medical stuff" got blown out of the water ... again. There is a ton of medical and health related questions floating around. I still think it would be wise to have a nice medical related section. I am sure all those who agree'd last time would still agree.

Those worried about giving out "bad" advice and everything, think of all the great advice/questions being asked in the LAW section. "can I kill someone?" hahaha

I think we should....

Good suggestion. Usually I go to other boards for that since there are medical professionals who host these.

However, as we all continue to grow, graduate, and progress in our professions, it would probably be a good thing to have a health section since there will eventually be a handfull of experts willing to give solid advice on health-related topics.

btw, i am not suggesting for people to get help from here, but there are times when people dont NEED a doctors visit for how to cure sprains, aches, etc. and many other things that people talk about. "oh my wisdom teeth are coming out, what should i expect?" type questions...

there are thousands of people who have had related experiences i think it would clear up clutter in the off-topic lounge and section these questions to another area. just like the law enforcement section is doing. which is a good idea btw, i think it's time to go to the other side. now that we have kids getting 'kill ur neighbor for touching your car, what should i do?' advice, we should have 'fix your neighbor you just attempted to murder on accident' area. :) haha

I think there are a lot of health related questions asked, and it doesn't have to be "I have another head growing out of my neck," it can include topics such as healthy eating, exercise, etc.
