I think it's a good idea, we could always add a sub onto the fitness (if the higher up's think it's a good idea), kind of a health (medical) and fitness section, they do go hand in hand :)

well excercise goes in sports but I think (always have) that a health forum is a good idea.

As long as it isn't abused (ie: Threads like I think I'm having a heart attack should I go to the hospital?)

yeah, i think we should....

i know some people, including myself at times, hate going to the doctor for problems. this could be a way for people to ask questions for opinions/solutions that'll help them be more confident and/or comfortable going.

i think on a weekly basis i post quite a bit to the health related topics all the time. from people concerned about symtpoms of STD'S which isn't really "adult R" rated and doesn't quite belong in the "sex topic" area, as I see most the "sex topic" related stuff being pornography. There is a dividing line for those worried sex related topics would merge into the new section, but think of it this way, sex education was giving to me in 7TH grade, and it was not pornography related as many would think, it was talking to people about self exams and what to look out for, and the truth is the women and men on this board are of age now this should be a concern to everyone here, and you really need to make a good move in the general direction of the well-being of everyone on the board. I am sure there are TONS of people on here who don't know how or what to identify as being abnormal or a problem.

In other situations such as, "I woke up this morning and my heart's beating kind of funny..." these are daily occurences that some people become aware of. If they're unsure of the symptoms one might ask someone else what the problem is before going to the doctor. Obviously situations like that require medical attention, but 90% of the time, it's a harmless arythmia that could be treated simply by eating some candy (low blood sugar), etc. A lot of people don't know the medical area, as of course there are tons of med students and probably full blown doctors on the site now who can help with those "petty, but not so petty" questions. :)

:tu for a SHO E.R. section :)

I CALL DIBS ON MODERATOR!!! :) only for that section though... no others please.

Yeah big 2nd on fitness. That would be off the chain. Health can be a wide range of subjects including the right diets...yeah I know it infringes on the food section a little but not so much. I didn't read the whole thread so sorry if I'm saying anything that's already been said.

Yes, the food section to me would be about food, but dieting should be a health/medical related topic. but again, you could just link fitness/food whatever else under the health section.

That would be easy to do and simple enough. You know, people get concerned about all kinds of health related topics as that is something very personal and you see tons of related topics in the off topic area almost on a daily basis. Just yesterday and monday there was another wisdom tooth thread going around about what to expect. That's a perfect example of a med. topic. :)

Tons of STD related questions in EQ/SEXtopic that would be medical related...

I think it would be a good place where people could go to get help with health related issues.

The main argument has always been that people would use it as an alternative to going to the dr and that SHO would be held liable if anything went wrong.

-I don't think anyone is stupid enough to use the internet as a substitute for qualified medical care

-I doubt any judge in the world would hold the forum liable if someone was that stupid and something went horribly wrong

there's plenty of forums for the likes of us dental surgeons/dentists/medico's.
they have no legal binding.

No. If you have a health problem you should go to the DR.

Even real health related websites and forums with REAL DRs tell people to GO TO THE FUCKING DOCTOR! :hehs
I think a health section would be a good idea

seems like most of the time when someone go to the doctor, the doctor recommend the same treatment for a certain illness or injurys anyways. We can have good advice from most members here for minor problems, instead of visiting the doctor and being overcharged...some people dont have health insurance so it gets pretty expensive....

wasn't this already mentioned way back at the end of last year? Health section sounds like a really good idea but people might take some wrong advices and get more fucked up. But it's true that if you have a broken leg, see the doctor, don't ask how to heal it here. In some ways it's a good idea and some ways, bad idea.

might be a good idea just as long as its not abused. Im pretty sure all of us who are in the medical field dont mind helping out.

about the "dying" comment...

this board is nothing but RISK as it is.... even without a 'health' section.

you're main purpose is to tell kids how to "GO FAST" in their cars. they also get the idea of purposefully breaking the law by street racing and having modifications on their vehicles that could kill not only themselves but everyone else around them.

There is then the legal/law area in which is a clever idea and very good, IF someone doesn't get the idea to think it's okay to blast someone away because they called them a dirty name, or think they're some badass and get themselves killed.

in either case you can still get "killed" by information found within the board. People just know their limits and common sense tells them not to do something that's going to put themselves in jeopardy (most of the time).
