No I havent ever taken one off myself. But I thought it would just be common sense to look for a gasket problem. It would just be metal on metal if there isnt a gasket right???

not in between the block and the tranny its all sealed up inside the tranny and has a splined shaft which connects to the clutch.

Maybe they didn't get the ATTS unit sealed up correctly. In order to install the clutch you have to remove the ATTS completely, then the tranny. If it didn't seal up properly that would explain the light. You can get a generic code from the ATTS the same way you get them off the ECU by jumping the service connector.
