I wanan know what it means when the face of the stereo says like 50 w x 4 channel ? what does that mean? i have 4 140w xplode speakers and i wanna put them in the sol but am looking for a head unit, so i wanted to know what it means when it says that. Thanx

thats the max power, basically meanless. the power you want to look at is the RMS rating. thats the real world power. most headunits nowadays put out about 19watts RMS. the 140watts on the speakers are probably max also.

GS is right. MOST hu's only put out around 20W rms. Not too good. To tell you the truth, i would never run anything off of Deck power. just get a very small amp, maybe a good 4 channel. It wouldnt be too much more trouble to do this, but it will make a big difference.

litspliff420 made some good points. 20watts from a deck is not too much power. Also, you'll notice a lot of decks start to distort or crap out once you turn the volume up 75% of max or more. Even a small amp is a good idea. A decent 4 channel will add volume and clarity to your system and most amps these days have a built in crossover so you'll be able to tune it to cut down some of the low frequencies that your regular speakers weren't designed to produce.

What i always tell people who ask about using deck power, is to look at a 40x4 amplifier, and compare it to the size of your headunit. Its considerably different, when you also take into account the components that are in headuit for the display, radio, etc. But, like everyone else said, its better to run off an external amplifier, than the distortion prone internal amplifer of the headunit.
