Just out of curiousity, how much dead weight could be stripped off of a Civic? Chairs, stereo, carpeting, door panels, the whole shabang.

Are you kidding???
Guess you thought wrong lol i am just messin with ya
Somehow I thought you could get more. But, then again, any individual part on a Honda is already suprisingly light.
Lets see here...
passenger seat, rear seat, spare/jack, carpet, sound deadening, inside plastic door panels, speakers, front/rear bumpers, support bar that runs underneath the rear passengers feet, center console, swap driver's seat for racing seat, power steering assembly, air conditioning assembly... thats about all i can think of. I figure this is good for close to 400 lbs... I'm not suggesting you do all this stuff - cuz then you'd be dead if you hit a small bird... but you can drop alot more than 200 lbs - if you have the strength to turn manually, dont mind smelling like sweat, and dont every carry passengers.

HAHAHAHAHA the STEEL bumpers that are behind the covers, not the bumper covers them self....

sides if your really serious about lossing weight from a civic, everyone knows you HAVE to tube frame it and have a custom carbon fiber body made, and lexan window, get with the program, that's all the rage in the so cali. street scene

yeah i understood what you said the first time, what i said was that first off it's illegal to drive around without bumpers, as in all cars are required to have bumpers it's a safety thing, second i had said how the hell do you put the bumpers on if there's nothing to support them?

ok i'll play, since the bumper isn't actualy attatched to bumper supports i don't see where this would be a problem, and like it was said in the fist place this would be a stupid idea to do ona street car, if your worried about it flopping around a fiberglass bumper cover could be used, but since we are talking about a street car, WHATS THE FUCKING POINT!!!!!!

damn you guys are hella lame, you have the gayest fucking posts. where the hell is this question going, only one person actually answered the question, the rest just mocked and bitched. there was an article about this, some guy in a civic si took out pretty much everything u can and have it still be legal, so look through some past issues and youll find it there
i knoe huh aem civic. this place aint even helpful no more.back then it was coo now peeps just talk shit mostly. u people here think u knoe everything and think everyones questions are dumb. sup with dat huh aem civic? hows ur car running? u the one with the quick DX rite?
I've semi-gutted my car.
So far i've taken out:
spare wheel
boot false floor
boot carpet
hatch parcel shelf
rear speakers
back seats
carpet

I'm in the process of removing the sound deadening. The best way is to use a hair dryer and heat it up. Then scrape it off.
Another way I've seen it done is to use an oxy-torch and melt it off. But I'd rather not use a flame on my car :)
Gee, I can't imagine how loud my car would be inside without sound deadening. What do you think you lost? 100lbs or so?
