Take-Two "Completely Focused" on Nintendo
By Tom Ivan

A closer inspection of the transcript from Take Two’s Q2 earnings call has revealed that the publisher is intent on capitalizing on the success of Nintendo’s Wii and DS platforms.
Fielding a question from Michael Savner from Bank of America concerning the firm’s Wii and DS strategies, Take Two chairman Strauss Zelnick revealed that the company fully intends to ramp up its Nintendo Wii and DS strategies.

“To be perfectly frank, I don’t think it takes a rocket scientist to realize what’s going on with Wii and DS. I will tell you that very quickly we turned to both 2K and to Rockstar and said guys, we need a DS strategy and a Wii strategy and we are working on it. As we get into the next quarter and into budget season for 2008, everybody in this company is completely focused on it.”

Take Two recently released Fantastic 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer on Wii and DS and plan to do the same later this month with The BIGS and later this quarter with Manhunt 2 (pictured). However, it would be fair to say that the company's most recent release schedule publication is fairly scant with regard to titles catering for Nintendo platform owners.

Zelnick stated that the firm was analyzing whether the Nintendo platforms were good hosts for Take Two’s sports based titles, and that new games for the Wii and DS would emerge.

“Having said that, development cycles are long. Sports aren’t as good as games develop for specific platforms but we are looking at all of them across the board for Wii and DS. I will tell you that carnival games that we’ve announced for the Wii have gotten a lot of attention in the marketplace, as well as with our first-party partners. So we are pretty excited about that.

“We have some -- some have been announced, some Wii titles have been announced and we are working to put more out on the Wii and DS.”

I don't know, they just banked $50 Million from Microsoft, I think it's safe to say they'll be pulling hard for MS, since they got them much further out of their $60 Million profit loss from last year to this year.

Though, since Take 2 has so many faces, I think it's safe to say we'll definately see a lot of Wii and DS support, it'll help them from losing so much damn money every year. I can't see how you can blow so much money and make such good games...then lose it.
