Is the Tanbe Sustec Pro suspension a good buy? Or can youget the same thing out of buying Koni's with Ground Control? People tell me it's the same for less money. What do you think?
I recommend getting Tein...honestly man...get teins. you can get them for 950 or 1050 depending on what model you want. those are the price for a prelude...not a different car...which will be even cheaper:)

I have KYB"s and KYB agx and I recommend getting a full coilover set up.

Hmm... In my mind that's sorta like comparing apples 'n' apples. Or more specifically Golden Delicious 'n' Granny Smith. They're both delicious, but they taste quite different ;). Don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with Koni's and GC's, or Koni's and Eibachs (or whatever), but I don't think they're that comparable to a true full blown coilver systems like the Tanabes or Teins or Zeals (or whatever)... I do own a set of Tanabe Sustec Pro S-S's so I am certainly a bit biased.

The moniker that you get what you pay for generally rings true with "real" coilovers systems. For the casual user, the benefits of a true coilover system is usually wasted on general daily driving (like myself  ), but provide a level of performance on the strip or circuit that usaally cannot be easily matched by a spring/shock combo.

I assume by the double spring you mean the main coil and the helper spring. I didn't realize getting the helper spring was optional.

I always thought the Sustec Pro Streets were the only ones that didn't come with them, and were otherwise "standard equipment" on the Pro S-S's and Pro's. But yeah, after looking at the US distributors web site it does look like they're optional.

From the website: "A newly designed helper spring is used above the main spring. Along with eliminating spring play, this also ensures stroke on the extending side."

I didn't even think to ask about getting them without the helper spring....huh. Prolly would've been cheaper, too.

Mackin Industries.... In case you haven't seen it.

They don't have a page for the Pro S-S's, but feature-wise they're between the Streets and the Pro's. A great coilover system. I've never been happier.

Heh... one's twice the price of the other? (well, not quite)

Honestly, I've reached my threshold of knowledge about this particular suspension system. I think the Pro's may come with pillowballs, whereas on the Streets and S-S's they're optional. Unless you're taking your car to the track or you have cash to spend, don't bother getting the Pro's, they're overkill for the street. Some people say the same about the S-S's too, tho'. Regardless, the whole Sustec Pro line is great. I believe the Streets have been discontinued, so your best bet is the S-S's. They allow for a remarkable amount of drop. I've lowered my ride about 2 inches all the way around, and I'm about halfway down the threaded body of the shock. I could, conceivably, drop the car another 2 inches.

From driving experience, they are a great coilover system. I've had them for a year, and so far have had zero problems. I never realized how important the suspension was, or how much it would effect my driving, until I got them put on.

Again, you won't go wrong with 'Teins or the Tanabes or Progress Groups or whatever. They're all reputable brands with their own devoted fans.

Tanabe r00lz! :D
