OK... heres the deal... Like i said i just got a 96' Civic HB and i plan on doing and engine swap. alright..
I plan on getting a turbo kit for the car and i need some help on engine selection.. I was planning on a B18c for my power plant but people are telling me that the compresion is too high to run turbos.. I want something with alot of pizaz already before i hook up the trubos. Ne suggestions whould be greatly appreciated.

What do you mean by pizaz? Are you just after the Vtec factor, do you mean HP win you say pizaz? You can drop in any b-series engine, hell you can even drop in a H22. But if you are going turbo the B18B or B16A is you best bet. Ya you can turbo a B18C you just need to lower the compression.

ok thanx and by lowering compression i am assuming you mean heads, pistons, and internals.

Well actually, boosting with b18c1 isn't a bad idea if you make sure you do the right tuning. In fact, it will definetly make more power than an LS if you boost both engines exactly the same. Although a stock LS can handle more boost with the tuning, I rather trade it that it in for a stock b18c1 and boost that because you will have less turbo lag, more response, and pretty much a better engine. A stock GSR boosted at 8 psi with the right tuning will make 250 FWHP! Even more if you know what you are doing while an LS won't make as much, even with the tuning and the same psi. But if you are hardcore and decide to run well over 12 psi, then lowering the compession which you will have to do anyways along with the engine blueprinting is the way to go.

Man...LS are for ppl who can't afford the b18c or just scared of the tuning required to make real power. I'm also sick of seeing so many ppl prefer to boost the b18b over other engines, definetly not the ultimate hybrid.

Oh yeah, B20z + Type R head + Turbo = the ultimate hybrid! 340 HP with only a modest 12 psi says a lot!

Ultimate hybrid huh? we'll heres my setup;b-18a block resleeved with (darton sleeves) to 84mm,( like the b-20z)balanced rotating assembly, crower rods, JE pistons 10.5 compression,92 B-16a head with port&polish for turbo ,drag gen 3 turbo kit boosting at 12lbs. daily driven in southern cali. Yes its ls/vtec sleeper 2.0liter with a high compression running on 91 octane!!! I just have the best fuel and ecu management system, so yeah its not impossible to run high compression with almost 1 bar(approx.15lbs) of boost on a daily driver just need to have excellent tuning !!!!!!!!oh yeah its in a 92 civic h/b full int. with a/c and ent. system still posting mid12 sec. runs with the stereo thumping fast & the furious and me playing grand theft auto!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!ha ha ha ha see you on beach blvd.

stillbhindme, that's an awesome setup. i was planning on rebuilding my motor with 10.5:1 compression for my turbo'd car. what do you use for fuel and engine management?

we'll up until two weeks ago i used to use hondata programming but now i'm using the brand new AEM plug and play ecu (upgraded to race spec) really good setup if you got a good laptop you can do everything from your drivers seat!!!!!I highly recommend its awesome, yeah make sure you keep a close eye on the air fuel ratio when tuning on the high end!!! save your money. It's pretty resonable price but still cost's more than your average bolt on! HA HA HA HA !!!!!!!!

actually, come to think of it, the aem ecu might come out to the same price as a hondata-- assuming one just installs the aem ecu themself.

hondata 2b + install = aem ecu + self install???

how much of a difference is there with price?

what are you talking about!?!same price not even, the reason why the AEM unit is better is if you have any knowledge in tuning your own car is the ecu is plug and play with upgradeable software!!! not so with the hondata, it still needs additional wires example;twin knock sensors!!!!!!!!come on, do you even have turbo? if you don't then just get a chipped ecu and a vafc from apexi and don't worry about which cost's more! practice wiring it up then give me a holla, to show you what all the controls mean and do.peace

i wasn't saying that each unit was the same price. i was saying that the price of a hondata 2b (~560) + install would equal the cost of the aem unit (~$1500, correct me if i'm wrong). and that would be assuming one would install the plug and play aem himself. but after looking at it, the aem might come out to being more anyway. i wasn't saying that one unit was better than the other, i was simply talking about price.

yes, i have a turbo. i'm considering some sort of engine management once i build up my spare block and throw out the greddy blue box. i'm taking baby steps right now :) let me know how everything goes. since the aem unit is still relatively new, i haven't been able to read much about it, but let me know how it goes. later

hey you get what you pay for if tuned right all the timing and fuel management will be met and you won't hear a ping of detonation ,on really extreme motors with high boost and high comp. (10.5 and up)plus any upgrades you do like larger injectors, a shot of NOS, etc. will easily be monitored, and like i said before you don't need any expert tech! to install it just pull off the ecu and plug the new AEM in done!! folow the simple instructions and away you GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! p.s. if you got the greddy turbo I suggest that you upgrade the turbo to a bigger one,at least one size bigger.peace
