time measurement

This might sound like a stupid question to you guys, but when does the time start running: when the light goes or when you actually start moving?
Over here in Belgium (europe) there aren't many events where you can dragrace, and i want to compare my time to the times run in the USA.

I ran a 14,[email protected] 156 kmh (97 mph), measured with the time running when the light goes to green.

By the way i drive a 1992 vti (b16a2) hatch.

if its the same it starts after your r/t starts, so theoritically you could chill on the line for 14 seconds and still run 12 second 1/4 mile, and providing you guys have the same engine specs as japan that sounds about right......170hp right?
The vti they selled here in Belgium had 160 hp standard, i'm not sure how much it had in other european countries. I had my car dynoed a few weeks ago and it produced 174 hp (crank). I've got intake, removed servo, no kat, little timing advance and 98 octane fuel.
The problem was that the time started to run even when you did not start, so i think with the normal time measurement, the one you guys use, i should be about 0,5 seconds faster.

Anyway thanks for your reply!
Now i know for sure.
i cant imagine any quarter mile track using dif systems.....did it have 2 yellow staging lights, then it went yellow-yellow-yellow-green? cause thats a standard tree, pro goes 3 yellows all at once and then green, but from your hp and what car it is i seriously doubt that that time was off and that you could shave off half a second, post how the light went
It wasn't even at a quarter mile track, we don't have any here, it was at an old airport.
Anyway, the light was red, then orange, then green and the time started to run when the light went to green, not when you started.
I forgot to mention that i threw about 200 pounds out of my car.
The reason i asked this question, is that the times were a bit on the slow side. Guys who raced regulary said that their times where about 0,5 seconds slower then normal.
I beat a lotus elise, subaru impreza and a golf gti.
Anyway it was great fun!:p

um then what was it timing
I know that that track sounds crazy to you guys, but we don't have any quarter mile tracks, so we have to improvize a little. (ok maybe a lot)
As far as i know all drag racing is held on normal race tracks or airports, not ideal but still fun!!

yes yes drag is fun but whats the point of timing it if there is no set distance?
