tranny question with engine swap.

Hi, My friend asked me if he can swap the engine of his automatic 6g?! He wants a B16A2 but does not know if he can use the automatic tranny with it.

I have never think about it. I told him he properly need to swap his stock tranny with an Integra GS or LS transmission. What do you guys think?

swaping a b-series and keeping it an auto? what's the point
if all he wants is a tiny lil but of extra power better of saving
all the money on that swap and getting n2o, jrsc, or greddy kit
i've heard a lot of ppl talking about keeping their car an auto
and doing a swap, but it's all fugin' talk, no one here's done it yet
he'd have to get an ls tranny to match that si engine. its possible, but i don't know if its worth it. would he be turboing it or anything?

OH! but wait there's more

to make this work you also need the LS ecu, well guess what an LS doesn't have that the B16a2 does, yep vtec, where am i going with all this? all this equals a BIG OL PAIN IN THE ASS
it's just NOT worth doing, and reguardless what anyone tells you it'll be cheaper to just convert it over to a 5 speed while doing the swap, than keeping it an auto, the simple fact is that most ppl that work on cars as a hobbie do not have enough knowlege to under take all the wireing nightmares that a conversion like this would entail, i'm not say it can't be done, but if your going to spend the money on a B16a2, odviously he want power, well y not use a tranny that will put more power to the ground, other wise if he just wants a lil faster, FI is going to be the weapon of choice in the battle

i didn't even think about that, but it is true. so he'd be pretty much screwed when he needs an ecu, right? but wasn't there an auto gsr sedan at one time?
For about $2500, most b16 comes with a manual transmission (hydro or cable its depends), some even comes with slip differential. Usually, a complete swap comes with axles, harness and even the original ECU. Go to specjdm.com or infinitemotorsport to see what your engine comes with if you do buy the engine from them.

no, there has never been a b series in the states that has had a vtec head and also an auto tranny, he wouldn't be totaly screwed a vtec controler could be used, but seriously what's the motivation? does he want his car to be as fast as it can? if so no need to get an auto trans. if he's like in a wheel chair and can't drive a 5speed i might understand, but thats about the only reason i'd ever consider an auto. if your a true friend talk him outta it, or convince him a manual is the only way to go, but if hes still set of having an auto FI is gonna be the best option
you can have the LS ECU chipped and programed to run VTEC which would cost some dough, im not sure exactly on the specs on that, but mokuboy knows a lot about auto trannies and what not...I believe that there are prelude type s' in japan that run with auto transmissions, but the beefier torque that they have, helps accomdate that...yes, i agree with everyone with having an auto tranny for serious honda enthusiats...our engines require manipulation of our gears because we make most of power in the mid-high end...supras and the like run great on auto trannys because the auto shifting helps with turbo boost...
