I wouldn't go below 8.5:1 or you will have a gut-less car for driving around town. When boost hits it will be a totally different story.

8.5:1 CR is gonna run like crap on the streets out of boost. 9:1 is a good CR but higher will always net you more power. The thing is the higher CR you go the smaller the window your tuner has. There are those drag cars that run 12:1 cr and tons of boost but they have money to burn and rebuild. Your b18b's CR is already low enough so you should be fine at what you are now for boosting. As for all motor high compression is a nessesity w/ wild cams. Decide what youre future plans for your car is now so you dont end up wasting time and money.

I would get forged pistons at 9.2:1 CR (your stock compression ratio) for turbo...........cause when u lower the CR u will lose a sginificant amount of power and acceleration when u are not in ur boost range.....cause the turbo doesnt spool up right away......

and for nitrous....... the higher the compression ratio the better performence u get out of nitrous.....but make sure ur shit is forged and stronger than stock if u want to run some serious shots....

If you are only going to boost 5 psi I would look into a higher compression ratio.

whats tha max i can boost on a LS automatic considering that i have right now stock internals with the exception of 9.0:1 forged pistons while racing? whats the max with built up internals while racing? any recommendations on some better rods, camshafts?

A stock LS shouldn't boost above 10 psi.

If you are only going to boost 5 psi, I would recommend looking into other options for power. The money spent on a buildup and turbo kit isn't worth it for only 5 psi.

well of course i would be just boostin 5 when im just driving around to and from school or wherevers and just knock it up some notches when im racing...but no more than 10psi rite? thats y i need some new internals, for when it comes down to racing. thats all that im worried about...becuase its goin to be a daily driven car

Okay, now it is clear. You could drop down to 9.0:1 compression and run maybe 13psi at the track without worry. 9.0:1 won't make for bad driving to and from school. I would also consider going down to 8.5:1. It is going to cost you the same, and you will be quicker at the track. More boost and more power for you buck.

coo thanks for tha info...got couple other question tho...some peeps were tellin me that i would need to get some stronger connecting rods and camshafts, what SPECIFIC kind should i get for my setup? i have a set of aem tru time cam gears and aem tru power pulleys (none of which is installed yet), will those help in my turbo setup or would i even need them at all or r they the best kind for the engine?

Well as for cams, a lot of people have better results with the factory camshafts, unless they are cams specific for turbo applications. If you are in there doing piston work I would recommend also buying stronger connecting rods. It is kind of like an insurance policy. The cam gears probably won't get you that much power but they do allow for more tuning. The pulleys will help a little but they haven't been known to produce shocking numbers. In the future you could look to crower's turbo cams. It is not necessary now, but if you want more power without upping your boost it is always an option.

do u kno what specific kind of connecting rods i should get? crower has a reputable name...how bout that? haha i like that idea of more power w/o increasing boost...will look into that one.

im not sure about the whole camshaft thing (ill let someoone else give a good answer on that).....but its a good idea to get rods as well as the pistons.....but if ur doing only 5 psi..... then u real dont need internal work at all.....but if u want pistons and rods......i would go Endyn or JE............

Not a chance. The Drag cars run CR's in the 8's and 9's :1. They're not Superman, they're using the same parts as we do to make our cars fast, but w/o limitations to be used on the street.
