Turbo D15B7, is there a point?

1491 Views 13 Replies 11 Participants Last post by  TiMID
My civic LX is slow, is there any point to putting a turbo or supercharger on a D15B7 (92-95 DX, LX)? If so which ones? Or should I just upgrade to a B16 or B18 when my current motor (130,000 mi) dies. Any opinions?

turbo-ing a lx/dx isnt unheard of, but turboing a dx with that kind of mileage on it is a death sentence for your motor, swap it out
Rip your motor out and tottaly re-build it. Upgrade the rods, pistons, rings, re-slevee it, put a blockguard in, overbore it, extrude hone it, etc. Then do some head work(port and polish, etc) then you can boost the hell out of it. Make sure you upgrade the injectors, pump, plugs, get a FPR, get some MSD ignition components as well(blaster coil, wires, etc).
Slap a turbo on there and boost, baby boost!!

 OR for that much you could buy a low milage B18B or AT LEAST D16Z6 and slap it in there, and boost it. :) :p
Just swap in the B16a, Honda's most popular motor. There are about a trillion parts for this engine and it is very easy to get hp out of the B16a/
engine swap all the way. The turbo or supercharger is gonna cost you probably anywhere from 2 to 3 grand. With that much you can swap at least a b16. I got my b16 for 1800. With all the parts together it was like 2500.
Like it was said before,it's not unheard of to turbo a d15b7 (hell i did it) but for what it costs you should just swap the engine out.Don't waste your time swaping to a d16z6 because that would be pointless. It would run about $1,000 to turbo the current engine but it probably won't last to much longer ( i has 110k when i turbo'd mine).PLus you will also want more once you turbo the d15b7.I reached the limits of the engine and i still wanted more so i ended up swaping a b16a in.Figure out your plans for the car.Do you want to go turbo,sc,or stay n/a?Depending on what you plan to do realy is the factor in which engine you should go with. You can go with anything from a b18b to a H22 ranging in price from $2,000- $3,500.

i like how your area looks like blair witch country : )

Yeah, I would suggest a B series swap, and you may even end up saving a few dollars in the process. Plus these have more power potential than any D series engine.
I have a d16z6 and decided this would be the best route to take (even though I haven't actually done it yet.)
DUSTIN!! haha, Turbo LX Civic. Dustin, take my advice and do a swap (you have been in my car :) ) B-series all the way!!
Speaking of b16s, I'm seeing them go on Group Buy for $1600 shipped.

I'd look into one myself, but there's none younger than 96 :( Got Teg & Civic Type R's for 5 G's... I better keep saving.
man, that guy is a RIP-OFF!! He is selling his motors for like $300 more than everywhere else AND you gotta pay another $300 to ship on top of that. For anyone interested in motors, check out www.jdmhondaparts.com they have a big selection of motors and numerous other parts plus they have a good price on just about everything.

The $300 shipping charge is included in the prices listed, so that more or less evens out the dispute :p I'm not that guy's groupie or anything, nor am I recommending him... just throwing out the URL. I thought they all seemed like pretty decent deals.
1600 sounds like the price for just the block, dont forget you gotta get axels, tranny and an ecu
