Can anyone tell the basic process. Is it difficult? I have the Shop manual @ home but am just interested in seeing the results of the group.

i did it two days ago.. it was my third time.. its not difficult at all.. ill post the tech article tonight.. im planning on starting up my tech guide again tonight so there will be lotsa info... but it helps out a lot.. your car will get rid of that nasty ticking noise, gas mileage is A LOT better, and your car just rides overall smoother... and my advice to you is that if it says to tighten it to .006 - .007 inches then do the lower number cause its gonna be lose again sooner or later.
Thanks for the help... I was wondering where you planned on posting it. I would assume as a msg connected to this topic but I am not sure.
i still need to get around to doing one...i popped my hood just a few min ago and its incredible how loud my valves are...i can hear them slamming open and shut but my car still runs really good, they just make a lot of noise. VC gaskets are really hard to find around here, but i ordered one today too
the valves are easy....... but, speaking about a tech manual..... hmmmmm.......... i am about to tackle my timing belt..... anyone have any input???? I will be attempting my timing belts, water pump and 2 drive belts.... I am somewhat mechanically inclined :)

and i do have the HELM Manual......

Thanks!

Dan
man the only thing i need to know how to do is turn the Pistons to TDC...can't seem to get it right....the rest are pieces of cake...i'll probably adjust my valves pretty soon...my car is laggin..
I've never really worked with the internals of my engine before. I'd like to though, I used to do work on my old Ford F100 with a 302 but these engines are a little different.....I hope we can get a tech guide up for these procedures. i just paid my dad's buddy 600 Canadian to change my timing belt, do the brakes and rotate the tires and do all the fluids and a basic tune up. I wish I was more into my car at the time but I'm afraid of tackling problems that could lead to fucking up my engine. Hopefully a guide would help!

The easiest way to get it to TDC at least for me was to remove the spark plugs....... and then take a BIG BIG Socket (i think it is 24mm (almost 1") and turn the Alternator Pully.... and that turns the engine to where you need to be (follow your Manual for each cylinder and adjust it in the order it tells you)...... Hope that helps :)

Dan

P.S. The Helm Manual is a MUST!
the article is almost done.. ill be posting any time now.. :)...
valve adjustment

How much diiferent is it from the 5th generation valve adjustment. Can you e-mail me that tech guide if possible. Thanks!

its EXACTLY the same on the 5th gen as the 4th gen...
just finished up my valve adjustment :) this is my first time, i didnt know what i was doing and i dont really have the right tools, so it took me about 3 hours.

the car sounded kinda grindy when i first started it up...then about 5 sec later it got smoother and now it sounds like a brand new car.

btw: i set the pistons at TDC by putting the car in 5th gear, letting the clutch out and rolling down a hill slowly. i had my dad watch to make sure my cam gears were lined up perfectly.
go to my tech guide.. its a sticky.. it will tell all about how to do this.. im glad you got it weenie.. youwill like it a lot!
cool cool...yeah im liking it a lot, my valves must have been REALLY loose before i adjusted them because now the car performs much much better, smoother and quieter. im going to do this every 10k miles from now on.
