It' simple, those ratings are BS. I remember seeing an amp in the 99 CA&E direcory that was "rated" at 900x6, the best part was the fact that the amp was something along the lines of 7-800 bucks. Now a 5400 watt 6 channel amp for less than a grand? Please. The amps you see thatare 1K watts for less than a hundred bucks are crap, plain an simple.

It's right up there with the 60 x 4 headunits....

I would say that if you are paying under 1 dollar a watt for a class a/b amp, be careful. For a class D, $0.35-0.50 a Watt should be about correct. The best bang for the buck amps are still the JBL monoblocks. For around $350, you can get 1200W at either 2 or 1 ohm mono.

There are always exceptions to the rule, but I have found that to be a good guideline.

Honestly there are only a small number of honest 2kW amps out there. Depending on what subs they are, they also may not be able to truly handle that kind of power either.

Post what subs you have and then someone can make a good suggestion as to what amp to get.

Hey, hey, hey...that's not nice!!! My dash pad will sound better than anyone else's too...god I hope those horns sound good!! Oh, by the way, there is somone on Sounddomain looking for horns by ID.

I swear, people trust little printed letters more than they do common sense. Look at the size of any honest 50x4 amp, and I guarentee it's at least 2 or 3 times larger than your basic head, yet the head has the same power, and EQ, tuner, CD player, etc in it....It's amazing how those headunit manufacturers are able to use their magical shrinking gun on headunits, but not on amps!!!

That monster 14 ga power wire to the headunit is probably good enough for all that gear and that power as well  !!

DASHPADS RULE!!!! They're right up there with mullets, do you have one of those too Rob, or are you goin to grow one after you get your DASHPAD installed? ROFL!!!! Just kidding man.:D
Don't worry, the horns will RULE. I don;t know if you ever heard horns ina car before, but if you haven't wear a diaper because you are going to wet yourself.

Hey, thanks for the referral on SD about my horns, I hope he buys them......my budget is pathetic.

well what exactly is rms??
It stands for Root Mean Squared. Essentially it's the designation for the true continuous power rating, not the dynamics power rating (peak).

It's the number you should always pay attention to when looking at amplifiers. Also important would be the THD (total harmonic distortion). This will give you a guideline as to how clean the amp is. The lower the # the better.
