Can't decide which engine to put in my hatch. Was thinking bout b16a and turbo'n but have heard h22 is very nice swap also. Then there is b18's. Any help on deciding would be nice. Main reason for swap besides speed is to kill my friends 5.0 Stang.

do an LS b18 swap then build up the internals and boost 12-15psi and wave bye to the stang

here is how i see it.
the b16 is not a good choice for turbo since the compression is too high and you'll have to run low psi and that wont get you anywhere.
the h22 is an over kill for a hatch. too much power and $$.
i'm not saying is bad i just wouldnt do it.
i would go with a gsr swap (which i am this spring)

gsr swap+turbo=tasty
ls swap+ turbo=tasty=cheaper than gsr+turbo=quicker than gsr+turbo lol

well 92HYBRIDHATCH didnt mention anything about a turbo b18c with a turbo on it thats why i didnt suggest anything.
also i would rather have an H22 than a b18 turbo.

your handling will be better with a b16 or b18 versus a 22a. People put Vr6's in Rabbit and find out its front heavy, esp. in the snow or slick conditions. But putting everything in the back like battery etc. and putting the widest meats that will fit in the back will help. The 22a will also be the most expensive. For roughly the same cost a Type R spec b18c can be fitted, but if you plan on turboing it the compression will be too high. If N/A thrills are what you are after, the R spec unit will be alot of fun, it will feel like a hi-po street bike. Your power to weight ratio will be about 11lb/per hp, versus the GT's 14 or 15. Expect to easily pay over 6k+ though.............

h22.......when you get down to it, its almost the same price as doing a gsr swap.....and it gives so much power and torque. people talk alot about it being hard to steer with a h22 is horsecrap......my cuzin has a h22 in his hatch and that thing drives insanely fast and steers perfectly. its a 11 sec car with the 100 shot of NOS.

Look i used to have a 94 gs-r that beat 5.0's and there is no replacement for DOHC VTEC, but if you want an easily replacable engine that has plenty of potetial then enter the SOHC VTEC with a turbo kit!;) In a hatch(not Si 5th Gen) it'll go high high 13's on street tires! at 7 psi.Greddy's Kit is 1400-1900, just shop around, email me and i'll send you a link with a good price! a 400-600 dollar engine with a form of VTEC plus a Greddy turbo kit will kill a 5.0 and the GS-R i used to have when mated to a Non-Si HB. The only thing left to do after getting the Grddy kit is to Intercool it.
Then if you wanted to get in the low 13's high 12's you can build the bottom end and then there's the Venom Intake manifold, the Zex Camshaft, etc....... People really under estimate the SOHC VTEC, however i do agree it should go turbo for any real power, although there are some all motor D16's that can embarass 5.0's.

but in the end a dohc motor would be better then our sohc. im not dissing on our sohc. i thinks its great. a sohc wooping a dohc. thats a greta thing to hear. but im hoping to be able to hit 12s or low 13s with a ls with nitrous and slicks and clutch and basics. my sohc doing 14s aint good enough for me. but is a ls motor the best for nitrous and turbo compared to a b16 and b18c? i heard lots of peeps say it is. but see spendin all that money on my sohc would be great but i still wont be able to woop those really fast dohc hatches our their cuz those fockers are quick.

yeah but we came blow our motor, take off the turbo system and get another motor for 400-600 and put it in and re-install the turbo. a dohc guy is gonna be out of commision for a week or two unless he has a spare engine sitting around. a sohc vtec is good for wild setups, like turbo on stock bottomend and a 80 shot zex setup:D , if you blow your motor so what, get another one the next day. they're everywhere and cheap.:p

that's what i think i may do instead of going ls\turbo just turbo my d16y8 and if i blow the engine, oh well not 2-3k like a teg engine.

Don't worry about it!!!

Don't worry, the 5.0 will take out that four banger any day. You people don't really believe that RPM's will outdo real horsepower. I don't want to hear anything about your 500 HP imports, because those cars have alot of money invested in them. I have a 1996 Mustang GT that has 580 HP without nitrous, the only power adder is an Paxton supercharger, the rest are internals. All in all, i have $16,000 in the whole car, which by the way has 46,000 miles, leather interior, and perfect paint.
So, just watch out for the real cars, do the swap, and stick with your buddies and their Honda's!!! HAPPY RACING!!!!
