What to do on my new car???

2452 Views 9 Replies 10 Participants Last post by  just chillin
Hi everyone, this is my first post on this site...So here the Question is. Im getting a used 88' Si Hb from a saturn dealership for 500 bucks. It had a new clutch, timing belt, and 100,000 mile tune up. Its mile are around 100,000 and is totally stock. Im getting it for that cheap because my sisters fiance' work there. After I get this car im gonna bleed out all the old fluids and stuff and put new fluids it for safety. Im wondering what you guys think I should do to it for a cheap amount of money(no more than say around 3,000...remember this is going to be my first car). I know I should get rid of the old engine and swap it but with what, a ZC, 92-95 Si/EX? Im also planning on getting a CAI, Headers, Exhaust, Performance catalyc converter, lowering springs and some nice rims and wheels. (this might hit above 3 grand but these are most improtant). Im not to woried about it looking good, I don't think I need a body kit but I dont want it to have a giant ding in it...Ya know. I also don't want any altezza's. Just go fast stuff. Well this pretty much sums it all up. Thanks for replying:)

New engine

Go with a b16a engine swap. You'll get 160 hp + if you do some mods. This is a common engine swap and it goes for around 12-1600 depending on how much you can do yourself or what you can get and where. Other than that, go for an intake, underdrive pulleys, cam gears, etc. These are all great mods. Have fun!
swap it.
First if you are content on getting the car get and then research and find out what is offered for that yr car/motor.
Or research on a swap(if possible for that yr lude), or get a newer car and go from there.

Not trying to be a dick, just trying to help.

i agree.
well a zc should drop in there and you still can use your transmission and axels. (i may be wrong) . It will be cheap to do that, but you are only getting 130 hp. For a grand or 2 more you can get a b16 with 160 hp (flywheel). I would say to get some wheels/tires first, then deicde if you can swallow the big pill of a swap. but prior to the swap you may want to get a low buck suspension to make sure you keep your compsure on the road. Getting your brake system in order wouldn't be a bad idea also. Remember this is a 12 year old car and a lot of things can be deteriorated.

get a b16a1. you can get it for around 1000-1500 if you do the installation yourself. then drop it and some stock rims, like gsr or si.
