[Hybrid Fever]

Since I can't afford to get the money for an engine swap, I'm going to look for a 92-95 hatchback that already had a b16a or b18c. I'm kinda leary about doing this cuz I don't know how the last person would of taken care of it but I want one regardless. What should I look for when buying a hybrid to make sure that it's in good condition? Like engine wise, noises, the exhaust,etc. I don't wanna buy a beater.

Test drive it. See if the air conditioning of the power steering works, because most hybridders would remove it when swapping in a new engine. If it's an H22A hybrid, check the motor mounts.

It probably won't have air conditioning, which I would remove ayways cuz I don't use it, but I do want power steering. If it doesnt have that I will most likely add it later. i was looking at a specific one on the autotrader. It's located in anaheim. Heres the description:

Thanks for the help. I want to make sure it's smog legal too cuz I don't wanna worry about surprise smog checks. Any way to tell if it's jdm or usdm? If it's a usdm b16 it will be b16a3 right? and jdm b16, is b16a2?

But the jdm motors won't pass visual inspection in California. What grey plugs do I look for?

Where do I look on the DMV site for info on motor swaps? Do you know what the URL is?

i say if its got a motor swap its been rodded on. y not rod on it if its in there?

Yeah, thats the only problem I have with buying, I hope it wasn't raced alot. Even though thats the reason I want one, so I can race. So I guess there not muchof a difference unless the previous owner didn't know how to drive.
