Well, I am assuming you are talking about Cold Air Intakes, and I've always heard that AEM tests there intakes thoroughly. You can also get an air bybass valve with them that won't allow water to get into your engine, and that is a very good thing.
Well, aem cold air intake has been tested for the best pipe diameter and everything. AEM also puts a coating on the pipe to try to keep heat away from the air inside of it. There is just a lot of tests that they supposely do.
you are paying mostly for the name if you buy an expensive intake. i have an AEM, and i dont think it is any better than a generic one you can buy off ebay, except maybe for the filter. if i had it to do again, i would probably buy an ebay intake and a good filter.
