Ok guys. Today, as i was coming back from school i wizzed by a cop that was just setting up to take speeds. If i had gone by 30 seconds later i would have gotten a big ticket for 70 in a 45. I'm tired of having close calls with cops.

So here i have a dilemma: drive the speed limit or buy a radar detector
hmm... tough one.. NOT

ok so what kind of radar detectors do you guys use? Has anyone tried any of the cobra line? How often does your radar detector save your ass?

Yo, I use the Escort radar detector. I bought it 4 the front and rear. I purchased the whole set in Florida. All for $500. Yo it cant jam any laser and radar device. You'll never get caught 4 speeding, it was the best investment.

11 points thats it, i think i have like 130 points, maybe our systems are differant then yours, well i already had my license suspened once for 6 months then i got it back and they put my on driving probation so i couldnt get one ticket for a whole YEAR ....ofcourse i did, so now i lost it again for 11 more months, i lost it last month for a year .....hope i dont get pulled over..i have a cobra its tha one below tha talking one, and it works hella good, i havnt got a ticket since, but i also been driving alot more carful now that i dont have a license anymore..

you must have had some serious driving issues. glad you figured out how to be a little safer on the road. i have an Escort 8500 IMO way better than a V1. i have not had any tickets in the last 8 years but it has nothing to do with a radar detector. i do speed but i do it when i know i can get away with it.

If this were 1991, with X and K-band radar the primary threats, the Valentine One would have fared much better in this shootout. In the straightaway test, in unfiltered X-band mode it heard the radar from 7.5 miles away, good for a solid first-place ranking. At the same site it also scored within feet of the BEL and Escort in the X band city mode and K band tests. It was considerably less adept on Ka band, trailing the BEL and Escort by nearly 17,000 feet, almost 3.2 miles, and a critical shortcoming in an era when Ka- band radar guns are everywhere.

In the X-band highway/curve test it eked 68 more feet than the second-place Passport 8500 but achieved less than one third the Passport's range on X-band city. On Ka band it belatedly issued an alert only a few feet before the radar locked-on to our speed. god i dont feel like typing it all out again here but basically the v1 and passport were tested against each other along with like 4 other brands. the passport has about 2 times the distance for ka band and a handfull of other features that the V1 does not have.
also the passport is about 100 less than a V1. i could go on but you can go to www.radartest.com and read about it for yourself. this is just 1 source i know of that did a comparo. also i was reading a recent issue of car and driver and both units were advertised in that mag. the passport had about 6-8 different reviews where it was considered the best unit out of all the tests. the V1 only had 1 review that considered it to be the best. and i thi9nk if you weigh out the pros and cons of the 2 you will find that side detection is really a worthless feature since speed cannot be obtained from the side of a moving vechicle. but it will cause your detector to alert you of false signals about 2 times as often.

also i should point out it came in 3rd out of 4 units tested in this example and the fact that it costs 100 more than a passport.. FORGET IT! no way i would buy a V1.
