What's the deal with 2 tachs?

Why do all these people have 2 tachs?
What is it for looks? Or do they think their CAI or Muffler lets them redline at 12,000? Am I missing something here? I just don't understand why someone would install a 5" Monster Tach in thier car if they already have one in their dash.

i agree with you bro, unless the car is extremely modded and needs more rpm redline i think its gay. Except in one condition where i wanted one was to put in the middle of my dash cause i cant realy see my tack when i race, just how i have my hand positions, but other then that i think its gay.
Well, a real reason to get one would be accuracy.. It has been said that stock tachometers are inaccurate.
Inacuracy...

Stock tachs are inacurate... I ahve a 5 incher in my car, and there is a 4-500 rpm difference... And also, when you are racing.. and i mean really racing.. you dont have time to be watching if you are gonna hit the rev limiter.. or whatever. If your runnig NAWWS.. you bet not be hitting the rev limiter.. o ryou will blow a piston throught he block.. True story, just happend

Buddy of mine, running NAWWS, the other night at the track, hit his rev limiter.. and had to limp his car off the track.. parked it, with a relly bad miss.. thought maybe foued a plug or something... we put new plugs in it... still missing, so before he went and did anything else.. put a compression tester on it.. good compress on 1, 2, and 4 cylinder.. but Zero compression on #3.. we pulled the head... a hole in the center of the piston all the way through.. caused by hitting hi rev limiter...

And besides, nothing better to be running against someone, and seeing the bling from the shift light anyway..

Well the funny thing is, nobody around here runs nos or turbo, this town is like 99% rice, there's only like 3 or 4 really fast/built hondas, I mean we had a local sanctioned drag race and not including those 3 or 4, the fastest time barely in the 15s.
My local scene sucks.
My soon to be h22a powered Civic HB Will Decimate all!

that is EXACTLY why i put my autometer in my car. reason number one, my stock tach is off by like 900 rpm. reason 2. at 8k rpm its hard to tell exactly when you're about to hit the rev limiter.
Can't you just tell by the sound of your engine? I don't know anybody that has to look at their tach to know when to shift. Learn to drive, 'bro.'
Hey eitan.. it not a drive thing.. its more of a race thing.. partna.. damn..
seriously.. accurate for wut? so u can measure ur fuel comsumption rate? itz not like u gotta shift at exact like 4582 rpmz or anything.

also aftermarket tachs, have a shifting indicator light which helps you in shifting... I don't know if anyone said that

Bah. That's why you LISTEN to your engine.

Now, I'm not too educated on N2O, but I know they have a way to cut the nitrous when you hit your rev limiter. Your boy should have spent the extra money so he could squeeze safely.

That's like running large amounts of boost on a stock engine. It's only a matter of time before something bad happens.
Sooooooo... if you guys are going to argue that a shift light is an important reason to buy a big ol goofy tach, y not just get the shift light buy it's self?????

EXACTLY! Just buy a shift light.... no need for a HUGE ASS TACH that has its own windshield wipers.... keep it clean..... keep it real..... and keep it cheap

good bUUUUrnn.. :D
ok
1. you can jsut buy a shift light, but it wont do you any good. the shift light plugs into the aftermarket Tach, and when the tach reaches certain RPM, it lights up. Stock Tachs dont have this feature.

2. why are you people revving your engines to the brink of rev limit?????? blah blah blah, "when you race you need every bit of every gear!" who ever told you that was an idiot. look at any dyno sheet on any car. yes torque peaks near the end of a gear (64-6800 rpm) but after that, your HP and Torque plummets. so by ridding out your gear past the peak HP and torque, you are just slowwing yourself down more. if you do hit the limiter, fuel is cut off, and takes a second to turn back on, so your slowing yourself down even more.

if you want to be fast, shift right after your peak Hp, not right before rev limit.
Thats right, i believe that a Civic EX, revlimits at 7200.. i have my light set at 6800.. Keeps me at the peak power bank and when i shift i am still in the power band.. I ran at the track, and got a 16.3, and then i ran again, hit the rev limiter, and i ran a 16.9.. Then i got the tach, and i ran a 16.0, 16.1, 16.1, 16.0, 15.9... So i am more accurate on times, and havent hit the rev limiter yet..

Leterz
