actually it's fairly easy to install, the only tools you'll need is just a really small phillips head screwdriver. As for buying a hard drive, you can pick one up off ebay, but you need to make sure the size of the hard drive first. The one i got for my gateway 3450 was 2.5 wide and 9.5mm high. good luck
Who has replaced a laptop hard drive???
My sisters Compaq Presario 1230 laptop died, it needs a new hard drive my question is do i need to ge a compaq laptop hard drive because they are expensive as hell or can i use some other kind? Is is much harder to do than working on a desktop?

Any laptop hard drive should work, as for install easy.
You might also need one of those star head screwdrivers; I don't think compaq uses regular philips head screw.

Not exactly, I've seen some compaq harddrives that are just completely diffrent then the dell Hd's that I'm used to seeing.
You should really make sure it fits before buying
I'm gonna wait till i get the lap top back and pull it apart before i buy anything then try and match a hard drive to it on e bay
