A have a 01 V6 Accord (auto of course) with INtake, headers, exhaust, I will be racing a Nissan Maxima 1997 Auto with Intake, y-pipe, cat-back exhaust, and some sort of valve body mod. Do you think I will be able to beat him? A friend of mine says that Maxima's are pretty fast. Let me know. Thanks

Yes those new 2002 Maxima are fast as hell, they have 255hp but the one im going to be racing has 190hp stock, he is pretty heavily modded though so im not sure what the outcome will be. Im just asking if any of you guys have any experience racing them. Thanks

The 2002 Maximas are the ones with the 255 horses, and anything later than that had 222 horsepower, with the exception being the Special Edition which made 227 horsepower. I've driven every generation of Nissans Maxima. They're all strong pullers, but anything 95 and newer or any 3rd gen with the 24 valve engine in it, I'd think twice about a race. They'd more than likely hand you your ass unless you had some serious mods that worked.

I may sound a little biased, being the owner of a 2002 Maxima SE, but I think the Max would take you.

It should be a fairly close race, but I've seen reports of AV6's running barely under 16 seconds flat with similar mods to yours. A 97 Max w/Auto and those mods you mentioned should run low to mid 15's. Honda Auto trannies coupled with weak torque on the lower rpm power band is what hurts the Accord. But you should give him a run anyway and let us know what happens, cuz I could just be full of chit .:D

Yeah thats what I had said earlier, his car has 190hp and 205tq but he has some serious mods. Or are the mods he has even considered serious? What is the Valve Body mod that he has? Does it do much? Thanks again

Having owned both, I'm afraid you are going to get

The 4th Gen Maxima's (95-99) are only 3100lb (auto) or 3000lb (5spd) which is significantly lighter than AV6's (3300 lb). They have slightly less horsepower (190) but more torque (205) and a much wider powerband. The VQ engine is simply amazing. Torque looms everywhere.

This modded 97 Max should definitely be in the low-15's. Intake adds maybe 5 whp, y-pipe around 10 whp, and I'm not sure about exhaust. The VB mod from from http://www.mobiletek.net/vb.html for Maxima's is an auto tranny mod that recalibrates it for fast/firm shifts instead of the slushy/slow shifts that it does stock. When the auto tranny is busy shifting, you lose time. This VB mod significantly reduces shift time and is said to give you gains of about 0.4s at the track, and feels more like the shifting of a manual according to people that have it.

Your AV6 mods are formidable, but I think the edge goes to the Maxima for this one.

But still go for it and prove me wrong. Good luck :)

first of all, get the hell off my fucking signature.
second.
your headers will probably help you out alot
I think it will be a even race...
but that exhaust of yours will slow you down in the low ends...
i raced whiteaccord dude (simon hwang) when i had a intake and he had one too.
mine CAI and his WAI.
we started out even and at the end he was on my door. (driver's door)
y pipe adds around 20-25 hp for us maxima owners...
I don't know about the headers for you guys..
so you do the calculation..
oh, I have a 4th gen auto GLE ... 1998 to be exact.
good luck buddy!

maxima definitely, theyre lightweight and wicked fast.

i had a 2k2 modded maxima rev at me in my supra, i was very impressed the way he kept up with me even though i wasnt pushing it all the way after 50mph it was over tho, pulled 7-8 car lengths on him. very good low end torque though, if i was to get a 4dr car, definitely a 2k2 maxima

mad props to the maximas and their VQ35 and VQ30 engines.. only downfall is i think the accord looks ALOT better

Well this one didnt turn out to well, for the people that said I would lose you were right, for those who said I would win... you were dead wrong. After class we met up and went out to this road that a lot of people race on because its heading out of town and its a 4 lane road. So we get to a stop light and it turns green and we take off we raced to probably about 90mph and I was about 5-6 car lengths back. This really makes me lose faith in my car:( He was flying he just pulled on me right off the line and just kept pulling. I guess now I know to stay away from modded Maximas. Thanks for the replys, anyone know any mod I could get that would allow me to keep up with him? THanks

I've raced a stock 97 vs my mods with no juice and won, but barely, so if your friend is modded he'll probably pull on you. I've raced a stock 2k2 max with a 55 shot pill and took him but only by about a car and a half. I've raced another 2k2 max since I put my 75shot pill in and by 110(when I shut it down since I know better than to race anything in 4th lol) I had 3-4 cars on him and was still pulling, that was after the 1 car lead he yanked from me off of the line so I was pretty happy.

Just point to your car and say, ok you won... I can make my car faster, but yours will always be ugly. lol

There's only one: Comptech Supercharger. With your current mods, you should be able to run 14's, but it'll cost you cuz Comptech parts ain't cheap.
custom turbo, nitrous, 5 speed conversion, or you can wait months for the CT super, because it isn't out yet.

I love people that know nothing of the car commenting on other people's cars. I was sittin in the garage saturday tinkering on the bel air, and my neighbor came over and proceeded to tell me that all auto trannies suck and that I obviously didn't know what I was doing or I would have put a stick in it. Uhhh yeah. 1000hp car and I plan on running brackets, but a TH-400 is a crappy tranny... ummmm ok..

and the two guys arguing about picutres of a car that's not even theirs. oh boy is that comical lol...

A custom turbo kit for the AV6 costs bank. I recommended the supercharger because it's more affordable and easier to maintain. With the amount of money you're going to spend on a custom turbo, you could take that cash and trade your car in for a BMW or Lex, but to each his own.
