1996 Integra SE (automatic)

OK, I took my car in to get the brake pads changed and get a full service oil change (topping off fluids and such). I get my car back and all is fine. An hour later, when I head to my friends house, my car F**ks up. I was going a steady 45, then all of a sudden my ABS light flicks on. Before I could think, my RPM's dropped to zero (i think my car turned off) and then the RPM gauge "flickered" and jumped around like crazy. I tried to push in the gas, but that didn't even rev my engine. No response at all. Then all of a sudden everything was back to normal. ABS light went off and my RPM's kicked back up to near 2200 (going 45mph). Just before I pulled up to my friends house, the same thing happened again...

Later that night, I go to get in my car to leave my friends house. Ahhh, my car wont start. Here's what happens. I put the key in, turn the key. I hear the engine turn over, i watch the RPM's go to 1000, but then they just drop to 0 and the engine shuts off. I tried turning the key and giving it some gas, but that doesnt work. It won't stay started. It will turn over every time, but wont stay. Is it my starter? WTF did this shop do to my car? They said they changed my autotranny fluid and changed my valve cover gasket and then all the normal things ina full service oil change. Could they have forgotten to plug a hose in or something?

Oh btw, my stereo and lights were on the whole time this was happening, so I doubt it would be something to do with the battery, but then again I don't know s**t.

The shop wants me to bring it in so they can take a look, but somehow I gotta get it towed to them first, unless I can get some help from someone here....
Thanks

It wouldn't be your starter.

My suggestion is to take the car back in to where you had the work done and describe the problem to them. Make them fix it.

Ya know what?

Instead of us trying to diagnose what problems you are having. JUST TAKE IT BACK TO THE SHOP THAT DID THE WORK!!!

MAKE THEM PICK IT UP OR HAVE THEM ABSORB THE TOWING CHARGES!

They worked on it and sounds like they F*cked it up so let them fix it.

Unless you don't trust them anymore and then you should take it to a more reputible shop or even a dealership.

It's NOT your starter.

Good luck,

A.

PS Usually you start with basic spark/ignition, fuel delivery for these dilemmas but, sounds like they messed with a few more things than we have the time or ability to diagnose.

same thing happened to me, but i gots a MT. it happened a couple nights ago, it was late, and i just dropped my girl off at her place. while i was leaving, i was noticing that my headlights and gauge cluster were getting dimmer. then my abs lite flashes on, then the rpms were like dropping as if it was gonna stall, but i was in neutral. so i revved it up, but when i let go the same problem. so i let it do its thing, i let it die on me. then i turned it off completely, then restarted it but then it was fine. hasn't happened again. i was thinkin that my idle is too low, its currently at 400. and its been like that ever since i bought the car in feb. ima get a tune up soon. so maybe they can just raise my idle up or something. we'll see.
once urs is fixed how bout u tell us what they say is wrong, aiight¿

update

Alright, I took my car back to the shop today. THey said that it was my ignition switch gone bad. New one = $75 at a local junkyard + $160 labor. Anyone think I should get a second opinion. A friend of mine is a tow truck driver and he said he sees this a lot and it is a fuel delivery problem %90 of the time. So whats up, I gotta throw a few beans down to get a new ignition or whatever or I could go somewhere else and hope they dont say the same thing or worse?

funny it goes bad AFTER they do ur tune up or whatever ya had done.. ha

go get a second opinion man, if ya know a mechanic in ur family or a friend that can take a look at it as a favor then have him do it.

but the last resort is to go back to that shop..it kinda sounds like they're rapin ya..

or..
u could just fork up the doe an take it back there just to get it over with. but almost 200 bucks could go to somethin more useful..

idono.
