WTF happened? My buddies RSX-S got smoke by a 97 Maxima (auto)

My buddy has an RSX type S and tonight we were leaving Chili's and walked to the car at the same time a guy driving a maxima walked to his. (we were parked right by him) we started talking about our cars and my buddy asked him to race. So we went out to this road on the highway leading out of town and raced from a stop light to about 90. The Maxima which was an auto pulled on us off the line and just kept pulling he ended up beating us by about 3 cars. There were two passengers in each car. We looked at his car after the race and he has Intake,Y-Pipe,Cat-back exhaust, and a valve body modification of some sort. Should this have happened? Are Maximas supposed to be fast? Someone let me know what is goin on. Thanks

The new one have 255hp.........i got smoked by one too......but the 97 i don't know how much HP i think 200 or a bit more.....

either your friend is a horrible driver or the maxima had a lot more than the mods u listed...fourth gen. maxima AUTO SE's run low to mid sixteens in the quarter mile..

Ive been looking at Car&Driver and the 97 Maxima Auto runs very low 16s stock, with the mods he has he was easily a 15 second car. Look in the Accord V6 forum, I raced one this morning and got beat by about 5-6 cars and the maxima had the same mods as the other one. Im going to have to bite the bullet and say that they are just plain faster than us. By the way my buddy is a great driver. Thanks

sorry to say but an intake and exhaust will not make a maxima a mid to low 15 second car like the RSX Type S is...

OK im not standing up for the Maxima here im just saying that they are fast. And he didnt just have intake and exhaust. He had intake, y-pipe(which give the max almost 20fwhp) cat-back, and a valve body modification. Either way we both got spanked by the Maxima so im just gonna take it like a man and give my respect.

As a owner of a type-s, i got to say off the line the type-s is very slow. No kind of low-end. On the other hand on the freeway i say buh bye to alot of cars. I raced a 2002 Tl type-s with comptech headers, exuast, and aem cai. We were side by side the whole way. Now that i got exuast n intake maybe i'll pull on him little but not much. Maximas are very quick considering they wiegh about 3500lbs i think. Another thing, the rsx is way to damn heavy.

The stock tires definitely won't give you a very good launch...

Isn't the whole idea with these engines to simply stay out of the low end, and launch from 3500 or more rpm, so vtec kicks in early in first gear, and then just stay above 6000?

I dunno, I know this of this guy, that has a white maxima auto, it has those exact same mods, but he's squeezing a 60 shot of nos. I wonder if it was that same guy, he's pretty quick. Did he have glasses?

Stats

Well, Maxima is a powerful car. Base on a 2002-2003, a Maxima can do 0 - 60 in 6.0 sec, versus a TypeS does it at about 6.7 sec. I would guess a 97 Maxima wouldn't be that much far off than the 2002 model. And not to mention the torque power different between a Maxima and a RSX. RSX is a disgrace when it comes to torque power. I wish they had more torque than 142(hence the reason I installed a misfiring system). That's like 100 less than the Maxima. I think the driver got smoked, some in the driving skillz department, and some in the machine department.

But don't worry guys, we'll have our revenge......with my RSX TypeR and a misfiring system. Don't ask me how I got my hand on the misfiring system or the TypeR. It can be done with my friend, called "Import." If you guys don't know what a misfiring system is, go check around. It's a pretty cool thing. I think I'm one of the very few who owned a TypeR in the U.S.

I know, I get that kind of look that you have right now, when I pulled up to some punk that couldn't believed that I had a TypeR. They thought I just bought the decal and put them on. They thought wrong after I smoke them at 0 - 60 at 4.4 secs. Anyone want to cry about that??

HAHA NICE JOKE!! this thread has some of the biggest BS I have ever read...#1 yes the 2002 maxima SE manual is a fast car, 255hp, torque 246lb-ft, #2 NO the 1997 Maxima auto SE is not a fast car, 190hp, torque- 205lb.ft. so basically you did guess wrong...#3 HOW DOES A TYPE R do 0-60 in 4.4 seconds??? Did you pull that straight outta your ass??? A Type R will most likely be in the high 5's...#4 To import a Type R to the US you would need to have a lot of money, and NO the Type R is NOT worth the amount of money your gonna need to spend to get it here(unless your rich like shit). Who has BS been called on? Obviously you dont know your shit because the 1997 Nissan Maxima that you said was slow beat the shit out of my buddies RSX-s. So either you say that both cars are slow or one or dont say that they are both slow. People are dumb, just because they own a car they think its the fastest around. I got beat in my accord by the same Maxima that beat my buddies RSX and I am taking like a man and saying that the Maxima is a faster car than my AV6 and the RSX-S. That is all.

I've got an RSX, and it's slow. So what. It's faster than a Civic. It's faster than a Lancer. It's faster than a Corolla. It's slower than a M3. It's slower than a Supra. It's slower than the new Maxima. Who cares who is faster. You win some, you lose some. In the end, there will ALWAYS be someone faster than you. I don't give a rats ass if your car is faster than my car, I look better than you cuz you're ugly.

RSX is fast. My car does the 1/4 mile in 6 seconds flat so ha! While you peons are trying to get up to 60mph, I'm already at the finish line. :laff:
