TRY THIS.........
Are you using Windows 98 or 98se ? If it's 98 then try to upgrade to 98 Second Edition. Since all of your media players are fugged up I would recommend re-installing your Opertaing System. If you have a windows 98/98se cd , you can reinstall through windows, that way you will not lose any data. This should put any missing files back on your system and fix the problem.
BTW. What specific error message is it giving you ? Knowing this may help and keep you from having to reinstall your OS.
