Only your essential programs should start during bootup.
After your computer fully boots. Click on Start--->Run--> Type:msconfig --->Click on the Startup tab.
Here you will see all programs that startup when your computer boots. Almost all of these do not need to startup except for maybe your AntiVirus and Firewall if you have them.
Find AIM and uncheck the box. If you have Kazaa or another P2P program startup you should remove them also.
Keep in mind that you are NOT deleting anything. Just disabling it from startup. If you want to use something then click on the icon or go to start..programs..
