I got a hook-up on a B18a,tranny,axles,ECU,harness, & linkage for a 1994 coupe. $400 bucks for all. OR a B18b & tranny $450. My ? is what is the difference and which is the best deal 4 the swap. I'm torn-up about the 2! Help me out!, it's getting crunch time for the D15b! Thanx.:bomb

go b18b.. less start up cost.
check it
HASPORT
from what I understand of it there is an incompatibility difference obd0 vs obd1 so:
- if your buying a 90-91 b18a you need to replace the distributor with one from a 92-95 integra b18a or b18b.
- fuel injectors will need to be replaced with ones from the same models above, or 92-95 civic EX, SI, DX, or LX
- you might not be getting a deal on the linkage either, apparently for it to work with our civics it needs to be from a 94 or newer civic
-check the transmission, if its a b18a chances are its a cable actuated clutch, which will require a special kit to adapt it to hydraulic operation

Lucky us hasport makes a good swap combo kit, comes with a $450 price tag tho, but it gives you billet aluminum mounts all around, poly bushings, and the cable conversion mount if required. Nice, clean, no hunting down random mounts.

check out what year teg the drive train came out of, Id say if its 92-95 it would be worth it, especially if the axles are still usable on the b18a setup.

I personally snapped up a complete swap package from a 90 teg b18a and now feel a little bit hosed for not looking into it more and seeing what can be used/cant be used.

as far as what engine/trans is better...
The cable actuated transmissions have a much wider range of gear ratios than the hydraulic, but if your planning to swap it and leave it this means nothing to you.
The engines them selves (electrical aside) have the same power handling abilities, same strengths, same weaknesses (both being B series engines) so in that respect they are equals...

at least that’s what i have dug up in looking

Yeah, performance book I got last night says the same thing. I don't know what the hell to do. I do not want to pass up a good cheap swap. Maybe I'll just stock pile it until I can get it in. Thanx CUDAEH. Anybody else got info...share please.

well I guess this is the way id attack it.
open up an excel page and make 3 columns across the top "part" "price b18a" "price b18b"
and then running down the rows fill out every part you would need for the swap. Linkage, axles, injectors, ecu, wire harness; do some research and figure out where and how much you can score this stuff for.
now you have a side by side price comparison on how much money worth of stuff you need to make either of these swaps a drop in.
here is an example I threw together

Good thing about this exercise is you will be forced to look into exactly what needs to happen to make this swap work. Also if you book mark the websites along the way you will have a log of what sites the parts are from and you will know exactly where to get them.

one word of warning tho....
Make darn sure what you have will work!
make sure that the linkage coming with your kit is post 94, make sure you have a 92 or newer b18a or else you will need injectors, and a distributor.....

other than that let the money talk, you might have a clear winner, or might just be within a couple of bucks in which case you cant go wrong either way.

there is one little piece of info that was missed. the b18a1 has about 125-130hp and the b18b1 has 140-142hp. this is due to changes in the exhaust manifold and cams. cudaeh is pretty much right. i would say go with a b18b1 cause they came in 94 and up integras which would bolt right into your civic.like cudaeh said your taking a risk trying to get a b18a1 in your civic. my friend has a 88 civic dx and had an obd0 91 integra motor dropped in and he had to switch injectors, distributor and some sensors over to obd1. also you would save 450-500 dollars buy getting a b18b1. you wouldnt have to buy the hydro to cable tranny conversion mounts.

is it bad that im so deep into modding that I no longer consider stock HP numbers, only what type of aftermarket is avalible, and what kind of numbers you can get out of it before going totally overboard (sleeving, independent fuel manigment, replacing all the internals ect)?
LOL
yeah Id say if your going to leave it fairly stock for a good long time the b18b is looking better and better!

Just make sure you set aside some $ for a timing belt, water pump, and head gasket set... Not too expensive and well worth the extra time (while you have the engine out that is). Im assuming based on the prices we are talking about engines over 150k miles?

Nice Guys... NICE GUYS! Thanx for the info. As all I do know at this point (B18A) is out of a '91 teg w/120K. B18B out of a '94 teg w/135K. But one thing is for sure it will not be going into my ride any time soon, I found out today that my head gasket is just leaking not trashed like originally thought. This means that I can just replace the gasket, put in the SI tranny and have a little fun while I build myself a kick ass motor. SWEET! And I just got confirmation that the dude has a boat load of extra parts that is leaving with the motors! Distributors, Injectors, Linkages, Engine stands, Transmissions, ECU's... and alot more small items. Says he's tired of the "H" badge. So today he says I can get it all for $850. Well what do you guys think of this price? I don't really need both...but i could always sell one to complete the swap expenses...I guess. Look forward to your response and thanx again.

I say buy them (then sell me a set of injectors, distributor and ecu!) I just bought a 90 teg b18a and need all the stuff i mentioned before!

serriously tho.. I hate walking.... HATE IT! so if this is your daily driver, it might not be all bad to have and extra engine and transmission sitting on the wing that you could swap out in a weekend if need be.

for 850 i would buy both swaps with all the little extra goodies cause like you said you could sell some parts of the offset the swap or like cudaeh said keep one as a "rainy day" backup just in case. either way 850 for all that is a pretty damn good deal

not to thread jack but cudaeh is you b18a1 obd0 or obd1??? i have a set of stock obd1 injectors off my 94 b18b1 if you want them. they all work i just upgraded my injectors

cool thanx.
I had an 86 firebird back when with a small block 305 that was my DD. I had two full drive trains, one with all my proformance mods, and the other with all the stock bits. It worked out very well, when ever I would break something I could just swap them over... got to the point where i could do it in 5 hours.

shaggsdb; got your pm and Ill def. take them!
my set up is bone stock out of a 90 teg, so I think thats obd0
