ok i have 1995 JDM h22a motor and i have been looking around a bunch of sites about info on the motor and I have been doing this for years lol but i only had the motor since the begining of summer, runs great pretty fast must admit, but on the real what is the REAL redline of this motor?!?!?!?!?

ive seen on some site that it is 8200rpm and some say 7200rpm and some say 7800rpm... WHAT IS IT!?!?!? lol

i just shift at 7000rpm when i push it normally... when i started racing i was taking it to like 7800rpm but i want to know what the real redline for this thing is, i heard that the motor looses its power after 7800rpm

oh yeh i have a p13 with a spoon program without a rev limiter so i dont know where it cuts off

thanks

ok so whats the difference between a cutoff anf a redline.....

i know in my car the redline is where the engine management system cuts off the fuel to the motor so the revs drop to where they are safe

I dunno why your guys cutoff is lower than mine. I have a jdm h22 and mine goes to nearly 8000.
Did you know that the stock tach is way off.. plus i believe that JDM motors do not have rev limiter/fuel cutoff. or higher point.

your redline is at 7400, that is where the red line starts on the tach, then fuel cut off is specified at 7500rpm for USDM motors.

You guys need to specify if you're talking about REAL RPM or TACH RPM.

Tach
7700 redline
~8000 limiter

Real #'s
7400 redline
7600 limiter

I don't care what your manual says. Install any halfway decent RPM monitoring system and those are the numbers you'll see.

USDM and JDM doesn't make a difference as far as redline/cutoff go. JDM has a speed governor near 114mph though on the stock ECU.

For the original poster - If you're seriously racing, shift at 8000 on your stock tach. No not EVER for any reason try and find the rev limiter on that ECU.

My civic tach shows right between 7500 and 7600 for cutoff. ive hit it a couple times. So i know its not so acurate.

my prelude tach was almost accurate as my autometer 5inch tach showed. but the prelude tach did show a little more rpm though.

i know for fact its 7400 redline and cut off i never did get a actual spec on it so if 7600 is it, then it is.

ok so hondas are just f'd up then,

how do they control your revs?

my nissan truck has a redline (assuming you are talking about the red line on your tach) of 6k but the rev limiter/fuel cutoff is at 5500

so what you guys are saying is that they are putting a red shiny line on your tach just for fun. and that your fuel cutoff is absolutly useless?!?

unless i am missing some funny little point

If you want to think of it that way then you tell me what good a fuel cutoff at 8100 is if you are banging off a limiter at 7600?
why would the fuel cut off at the rev limiter?

the fuel cut off is there to protect your motor from over revving.....aka 3rd to 2nd misshifts.

3rd to 2nd misshift is a MECHANICAL over-rev....NOTHING can stop the engine from revving in that situation. If you are at 7400rpm in 3rd and stick it in 2nd and let out the clutch the ECU can't push the clutch back in for you, lol.

on my jdm h22a before my ecu was chipped I saw on my stock accord tach about 7,800-8,000 u can see in the two vids in my sigs, After chipping the ecu I'm sure I can go more but I dont I shift between 7,600-8,000

The stock tach is off what like 200-300 rpm's ??

Yes, when your stock tach shows 8000 you're actually at about 7600rpm, right at the limiter on a stock ECU. Even with a chipped ECU, unless you've got a built motor, no need to shift past that.

I can vouch for that one. watched my engine do like 12k rpms or somehthing stupid like that caause of that shift.

Anyway, I have an MSD digital 6 ignition box in my car with the second stage rev limiter set at 8100. My tach actually shows that rpm pretty accurately. Assuming the digital 6 isn't off by the same amount or something retarded like that, the couple times I accidentally bumped that 8100 the tach showed just over 8000. I've never really tried, but I've never found the ecu's fuel cut off.

Hey guys this may be a little off topic but we car talking about limiters and shit.. i was wondering what the top speed limiter (governor) is on a 4th gen we had my sisters doing 125 and it wasnt cutting out or anything they say that Si's go to around 135 or so redline idk.. thats what i have A Si. but just wondering i dont think they have a gov and what do the 5th generations speed limiters stop at? or dont they lol..

im pretty sure they do 143 and thats at the end of there gearing

so i changed my tire size and now can do 148...

im looking into an accord tranny, with it and my tires i will do 168
thats fast enough for me

Hit +145mph (tach) with room to run in my SS 5th gen. prelude I don't think it would have stopped. I had stock rims on the car.

I also have hit fuel cut off racing my girl's mecedes by accident.

Wouldn't the redline refer to at what point u might encounter valve float or valvetrain problems due to the rpm?

And wouldn't the fuel cut off simply be to keep your engine from blowing up if there is piston:valve contact or simply bad timing due to the high rpm's effects on the valvetrain?

I'm not sure here but thats what i always thought.

I'm not sure what actually happens in my car when I hit 120mph(tach)..one second you hear the engine roaring the next seconds you hear tires on road and crickets, pure silence. However if u step on the clutch and let it slow down, which i always let it do a very decent amount, then try to put it in gear and go then you'll still be in action. So i'm guessing its a fuel cut off? It's like the engine just goes standby, like its not even idling but then when u put it back in gear and go its fine, u maintain powersteering and i know the engine isn't turning itself on and off w/o me noticing. I guess the road noise is too loud for the idle to sound like much of anything @ 120mph.

So my prelude should do around 140 or so not that im going to try it becuase ill just be getting my lisence i was just curious and stuff.. my dad said he had it at 125 but i dont think that it was maxed by far and u just told me that so now i know..
