2002 Passat W8 (Midsize Sedan)
Gearing up for its eventual head-on collision with BMW and Mercedes, Volkswagen debuted the W8-powered Passat at the 2001 Geneva Auto Show. Backed by a six-speed manual transmission and 4Motion all-wheel-drive system, the 275-hp W8 has the goods to compete with Germany's big-buck sedans. Add to that a vast array of options like Alcantara sport seats, an integrated navigation/video unit and a digital sound system, and you can be sure that this is one VW that won't go unnoticed.

2003 Golf (Sport Hatchback)
An article by George Karcher in the January issue of Automobile magazine reported that VW plans to add a high performance, all-wheel drive version of the upcoming fifth-generation Golf sporting a 300-hp W8 engine. The same engine might also find its way into the next-generation Jetta.

2003 Phaeton (Ultra Luxury Sedan)
Along with the opening of its ultra-modern Transparent Factory, Volkswagen officially announced the name for its new top-of-the-line sedan -- the Phaeton. As previously reported, power for the Phaeton will come in the form of either a 241-hp 3.2-liter V6 or a 420-hp 6.0-liter W12. The suspension will be an electronically controlled pneumatic system with all-wheel drive standard on W12 models. The interior will feature a 7-inch color monitor with integrated controls for the audio, navigation, telephone and four-zone climate control system. The Transparent Factory boasts an event center where Phaeton customers will be given VIP treatment as they watch their car roll down the high-tech assembly line. The Phaeton will be officially unveiled at the 2002 Geneva Motor Show in March.

2003 Tuareg (SUV)
Volkswagen's upcoming sport-utility takes its styling cues from the AAC show truck and the upcoming Phaeton luxury sedan. Designed to compete against the likes of Mercedes-Benz, Infiniti and Lexus, the vehicle is expected to go on sale in 2003. Powerplants are likely to include a 200-horsepower 2.8-liter VR6, a 230-hp 3.2-liter V6, a 280-hp 3.8-liter V8 and the 420-hp 6.0-liter W12 engine shown in the Audi A8L at the Paris Auto Show. And of course, this SUV will have all-wheel drive. Its first unveiling is expected at the 2002 Paris Auto Show this fall.

2004 Nardo (Ultra High Performance Sports Car)
Unveiled as the W12 Coupe at last year's Tokyo Auto Show, this 600-horsepower supercar has been approved for production.

the US will never get any of the golf options that can be found in germany... besides the W8 doesn't fit in the golf ... the VR6 is shoehorned in there....
